Gryphon has a Derrington signed DMM now. I have not seen one for sale in over 10 years. Precious few of those in existence. Those are wonderful instruments. I have owned mine for over 20 years....
It takes something pretty amazing to give me mandolin envy. This one gives me mando envy. Wow what a beauty!
For a few years i owned A DMM and a Red Diamond Crusher voiced mandolin. The Red Diamond was truly an exceptional mandolin but i sold it to buy a vintage Martin. I still own the DMM. I play it...
Happy Birthday to my musical hero! Your music has blessed my life so much!!!
Doc Watson couldn’t read music. SRV couldn’t read. I play with many fabulous musicians who don’t know how to read. Just learn to play. It will keep you interested in learning. Developing an ear is...
The DMM's are exquisite top of the line mandolins. You can compare them to any great mandolin that has ever been built, from any era, and they will shine. I have one from 2003 that i have loved...
Heart warming story. I love how the owner was set on this mandolin going to a musician and not a collector. It has landed in perfect hands. Cannot wait to hear it and congrats to you Darren!
Check out King Wilkie. Also Open Road. Two of my favorite bluegrass bands. Too bad they are no longer together.
My Gibson 2003 Gibson DMM. I will never own another mandolin. Hard to believe we have been mates for nearly 20 years.
Gorgeous! And I’ll bet it sounds as good as it looks!
Very nice! I'm not sure which number you had at Winfield this year but it played and sounded fantastic.
Awesome song. One of my favorite Norman songs.
So good!!! Thanks for this!!!!
Sad news. I will never forget hearing her at the Cactus Cafe during a rare Austin snowstorm in about ‘84 or ‘85. Great intimate show. Went with a gal who eventually became and still is my wife. An...
Thank you Mandolin Cafe for putting this out. Makes me proud to be part of this community! Thanks a lot CJ! I love your picking!
Tom Crandall is a super nice man. I was in his shop Thursday and played a bunch of the guitars and mandolins he has set up and restored. It’s a fabulous acoustic instrument shop. One of the best I...
Gorgeous mandolin. I have not had MAS for so long I thought I was cured...until now.
Garland square still going, weather permitting. Sons of Herman Hall on Thursday night in Deep Ellum is closed for now but hopeful that it will open back up soon when the bars open.
He’s doing great. He is moving his home and shop a bit farther north in the Taos area. He will be back up and going again. That said, I had Dave Harvey in Nashville refret my mandolin last time. He...
I have gone back and forth between j74s and j75s for years. Currently I am on a j74 kick. The 75s give a more explosive pop and rapid note decay which is awesome. The 74s are more resonant and also...
The Mater Models are every bit the exquisitely made and sounding instruments as the Gilchrists, Red Diamonds, Nuggets, Heiden, etc. I have no issue with the price if that’s the going rate for that...
I play a lot and 2-4 weeks depending on how much guitar playing I’m doing. After I get the new ones up to tension and play a bit I’m happy that I took the time to change them out.
I thought my version of that tune was the best ever. You certainly destroyed that myth! So well done. I look forward to hearing more of your music. Thanks for sharing!
I use J74s as well and go through a set every two weeks when I am playing a lot. The exps last longer but do not sound or feel as good to me so I change a lot of strings. You will get to where you...
