    Re: Butch Baldassari Tunes

Here's a great video teaching Butch's tune "Old Town". I'm working on it now. Butch played it at warp speed. Enjoy!

    Re: Butch Baldassari Tunes

    Skip, how cool is that!

Thanks, Andy. Let's play it at Monroe Camp next year! Maybe we could teach it to a bunch of folks.

Pat, yes, it's my all time favorite mandolin. I don't know about that...

    Re: Framus

The last time I saw that bass, there was a cupholder where the defibrillator paddles are, and Elvis had an oxygen tube (for Telluride elevation) instead of a joint. :mandosmiley:
  5. Re: Gilchrist's D log mandolins, do I have one ?

I think the key to the D log was that Gilchrist bought a lot of it and got to know it really well.

Re: Looking for help with Jenny Lynn.

    Hey Jordan,
They are playing it in A. I think it's a Bm in the chorus--the mandolin player kind of messes up the chords there but that's what I'm hearing. Definite B major in the verses.

    Butch Baldassari Tunes

With the recent release of the recordings of Butch Baldassari playing Monroe tunes with the orchestra, I thought we should have a thread where people could post some of Butch's great tunes. Or you...

Thanks so much. Wonderful treatment of Monroe's music by Butch and the orchestra. Butch's tone really comes through. Love it.
  12. Re: Ain't in it for my health; a film about Levon Helm

Have an ad blocker on my browser so it played without ads. Otherwise, it's full of ads. Great look into part of Levon's life.

Hey Tim, thanks. I was happy to help Matt get the book done. I felt like it was needed for the mando community.

Tom, let's play those at Monroe Camp next year!

    Re: Levon Helm

I saw Amy Helm (Levon's daughter) at the Four Corners Folk Festival in September. I had a recorder running, but didn't start the video on my phone until the song had started. The story she told to...

I can only imagine the legal web with all the parties involved and the adapted tunes, but whatever it takes, this should be released.

I learned Farewell Trion from this video. Love James Bryan's fiddling and Carl Jones taught at Monroe Camp this year.

Hans built some amazing looking and sounding mandos. Love my 23V with an Italian top.

Looking at the website Jim posted, I didn't realize Hans built Griffith Loar copies. I wonder how many of them...

Re: Blue Chip CT55 (and other Xmas ideas)

Ask Santa for some D'Addario XS strings to go with that BC CT55. Really brought out great tone in the one mando I've tried them on. Will be getting them for all the mandos.
  21. Pistol Packin' Mama--Wakefield, Reno, Wise, Nelson
