    Re: Fretless mandolin?

You feel irritated, confused, discombobulated? :(

I think it takes great skill to play a fretless instrument the correct way to sound in tune and pleasant to the ears. Fretless is...

  6. Re: Does your mando need a setup? Learn to do it yourself!

I received mine and have looked it over. It is very detailed, well-written, and I appreciate it, Rob. I have done some of my own work, but now I will be able to do more. Autonomy is a good thing.
  7. Re: Shove that Pigs Foot a Little Farther into the Fire

Shove the Pig's Foot is my favorite old time tune and you did a great job! I think that it is amazing to be able to play all those instruments with that kind of flow.

I now have two Apollo casein picks (blue and mandarin orange in 1.75mm/standard bevel) and they are PERFECTION. They sound great on all three of my mandolins, surprisingly. They have very good volume...

    Re: potato chip casein picks

Nik will come up with a better idea, but my first idea for this that popped into my head was to use a heat/singe barrier (a piece of cotton cloth), and a steam iron on a very flat, hard surface. It...

  12. Re: Suggestions for types strings and a mandolin

If your Weber has excellent fretwork and a great setup, you can go with Thomastik-Infeld strings. They are the easiest I have played (on someone else's mandolin), but they will sound less bright and...

They are both virtuosos who play out of the box with no limits. Great musical match. Thanks for posting this video.

OK, what time signature WAS that? I got the warm fuzzies when they went back to the traditional timing/feel. They certainly are fabulous musicians.

That's a job well done! You have skills. I too like the look after you dyed it black. What kind of black dye did you use? It really soaked in nicely.

Congratulations, Kevin! That is one gorgeous and sweet, clear-toned mandolin. I know that Hamlett mandolins are also very light in weight, a good thing.
