  1. Re: Basic Question: Vivaldi Concerto in D major RV 93

Look for the YouTube videos of Catarina Lichtenberg or Avi Avital. They both appear to be picking those notes rather than pull off. But certainly is your choice.
  2. Re: Is this a chord? first fret, D AND A, then G&E on 3rd fret?

The 4 is A-flat and the 5 B-flat. Ab is 1134, Bb is 3356. Or if you know D, G and A chop chords move them up one fret.
  3. Re: Al Capone's Waltz on Peter Coombe Classical Flattop

Based on a hint on Eric’s YouTube channel I found the Bil Bol Vals recorded in 1918 and played by Sundquist and Berg. https://archive.org/details/78_bil-bol-vals_sundquist-och-berg_gbia0310777a
  4. Re: Al Capone's Waltz on Peter Coombe Classical Flattop

Nice mandolin and nice Swedish waltz! Does the waltz have another name?
  5. Re: bowl back mandolin attic find, help identify?

Someone will be along with ideas about its identity, I’m sure. Please be aware to use only extra light strings. Heavier strings will damage these old bowlbacks.

    Re: Help with slash chords

As onswah said, the slash convention indicates what chord to play before the slash and what bass note to play after the slash. So D/Cm doesn’t make sense since there is no Cm note. Individual notes...

Re: Cleaning crud on a 1930s mandolin

It looks like this old Maxwell was used to play some train songs! The partially visible note lists Wabash Cannonball, Streamline Cannonball, and what I’m guessing is the Wreck of the Old 97. It’s...
  8. Re: What is the difference between a trill and a hammer-on?

Here is an interesting explanation of using hammer-ons and pull-offs for trills on classical guitar. She makes the point that there are sometimes trills that have to be sustained so the hammer-on /...

The strings look new. Be sure to use ultra light strings to avoid damaging the instrument!

Re: Help please!!!! Messed up pretty bad

From another thread, if you act in the next few hours...

Maybe a way to make amends for under $50. Not a very good instrument, but you could follow Rob Meldrum’s setup instructions. NFI.

    Re: The O'Carolan Project

I see that, too. It looks like the standard notation E, second fret of the D string, is a bit more in the F space, rather than on the E line.

    Re: Learning to read Rhythm

+1 on the Starer book. I have a fun little app called the Rhythm Sight Reading Trainer by Rolfs Apps. It puts up an exercise in standard notation and you tap it out with your finger in time to a...
  18. Re: Opening Mandolin Lick for Thunder Dan

That opening chord sounds to me like 470. That’s two tones of a B7. B at the 4th fret on the G string, A (the 7) at the 7th fret on the D string, and another A on the open A string. So it’s a B-A-A....
