Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

Sorry Keith. That was a little more bitey than I intended. Some of these topics are ludicrous to many, but these threads become amazing tools for researching new instruments and equipment, especially...

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

If it bothers you so much, then just donít click on the thread. Problem solved. We are just discussing a new and interesting finish that we are curious about, in a discussion forum.

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

I did contact them to check the serial, and it likely falls under the Truetone cutoff. The rep just copied and pasted the official Truetone release. I asked them what was in it because I noticed that...

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

Does Eastman claim that Trutone is catalyzed? I donít recall reading that.

Re: New Mando Day, Eastman MD315

Beautiful mandolin OP! Are the neck widths similar on Eastman and Kentucky mandolins?

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

I hope you are right. I only have one instrument to go off of but my finish looks more like my Alvarez Masterworks acoustic with a poly coffin around it than it does my Taylor 410. It looks thick....

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

My concern is thickness. I put acetone on a q-tip and wiped the overspray inside one of the f-holes(which initially led me to think it was nitro) and it exposed a good cross section of the finish and...

    Re: Pickguard Mountain Brackets

Interesting. I thought those were just for added strength. I donít see how they could hold up a pickguard by themselves.

    Pickguard Mountain Brackets

I ordered an abbreviated pickguard from Cumberland for my gold top Eastman. Looks like itís just the guard, no hardware. Can anyone steer me towards a good permanent mountain bracket? I know very...

Do you know anything about their new Trutone finish?
  13. Re: Dead Sounding Strings - Do I have a bridge issue?

Do you have his current contact info? I emailed the only address that I could find, awhile back and never received a response.

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

I am in this group. I purchased my instrument under the spec list that stated nitrocellulose and noticing the plastic like appearance of my mandolin, contacted Eastman and surprise, it is poly. I...

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

That why tort pickguards are so dang expensive? I think poly has itís virtues if done well, like on my 95 Taylor 410. However when laid on thick, I believe it hurts tone severely.

Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

Anybody own or played a newer Eastman mandolin? Curious about opinions on this finish. Mainly thickness vs nitrocellulose finished.

Re: What is a good beginner song to learn-

Thank you so much Johnny. I donít know who I am on a mandolin yet to be honest. I like bluegrass mandolin and I like Irish fiddle tunes too. Figuring where to start is daunting.

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

Newb question. Can mahogany back mandolins make good bluegrass instruments? Iíve read a bit that they really donít work well. Iím assuming itís a volume issue.

Do mandolins with Brazilian rosewood backs exist in the world? I would love to hear how one of those sounds.

Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

Would it be worth considering different tone woods rather than spruce/maple?
