  3. Re: Built a contact mic for string instruments.

Not to my knowledge I can't grow anything, lol. But I certainly had to braid my own wires and assemble my own circuits and enclosures, and I did assemble the piezo disc itself into a new...
  4. Re: Built a contact mic for string instruments.

yeah ... not available in India though, at least not without serious mark-up. :-)

I can pretty much guarantee that no one has built something exactly like my pickup.

    I assembled the...

    Re: Mic for onboard use

This is a bit of relevant self-promotion, so just ignore me if you don't care.
I live in India where most of the options listed here could cost 1.5x to 2x their listed price due to import costs and...
  6. Re: Audiovisual cheat sheet for scales and modes

    Thank you!

Yeah I figured I went overboard the moment I moved past the major scale and its modes, since generally people rarely use the modes of the other scales.
But I saw the other scales on...
  7. Re: Audiovisual cheat sheet for scales and modes

Yep, I redesigned it from the ground up about 3 times, even before the tedious work of adding the notation/tab images in v3. Took me a few weeks, oof. Pandemic lockdown certainly helped lol
    And true...
  8. Audiovisual cheat sheet for scales and modes

I've always struggled with scales and modes so I made this tool for myself a year ago.

The chromatic circle of notes (not the circle of fifths!), with a movable pattern overlaid on top to show the...

Thank you! :-) We're working on more haha

Haha nope ... arranged/transposed it myself from public domain piano score, using MuseScore notation software (this prelude is actually supposed to be...

  19. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

I'm not sure I understand, can you describe what the signal chain would look like?
Right now my setup for recording is piezo pickup --> preamp --> M-Audio.
Putting the preamp anywhere else defeats...
  20. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

I actually sort of love the Mint Box Buffer. I might eventually make some of those, separately. I tried a couple of transistor circuits but I had problems with noise, so I decided I wanted to make a...
  21. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

A little further down the page it shows the instrument input impedance as 1 MΩ. That's what I used for the raw piezo recording. I don't know about electronically adept - I don't have the tools to...
  22. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

Yes I agree about yours, and that's good. But your pickup is yours, and good pickups are very expensive in my country so most people use whatever they can afford, which too often are the cheap piezo...
  23. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

To each their own, of course.
My piezo and preamp is meant sort of as a one-size-fits-all, which means it needs to have full response especially in the lows. After all, if there's too much low...
  24. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

I did experiment a little with placement, but most of the instruments aren't mine so time was limited. I went with the simplest guaranteed outcome - on the body close to the bridge. Except for the...
  25. Re: My DIY piezoelectric pickup and preamp sound

All recorded using a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. "Raw" audio is the piezo directly connected to the line input, while the "preamp" audio uses the mic connection for phantom power.

    Pretty much....
