  1. Re: Oldest L-5! Lloyd Loar Signature!Analysis

An amazing restoration to watch! That's a beautiful Loar signed guitar! Glad to see these treasures are still around and can be preserved for future generations. :-)
  2. Re: What are the chances that a moderately-priced mandolin sounds

Last September I traded a very beautiful sounding A model for a used 2021 KM-1050 at a local music store. I am VERY impressed with the Kentucky I traded for. BTW, I bought a new Gibson F5 in 1999,...

Re: Is anyone else scared of Bill Monroe?

I met Bill Monroe in March of 1993, at the KY Opry in Draffenville, KY. He played a great show, even with an injury to his right hand from slipping on ice on his Cabin porch. My Dad took our picture...

Re: Mid tier Mando that will hold its value

I've noticed that Collins mandolins do retain their values, more than some well known makers. IMHO they are a good investment.

Re: Gator journeyman deluxe wood case.

I tried my Pava A mandolin in the Gator case, and it didn’t fit. FYI. Also, TKL makes a nice case, if you can find one. I have the Gibson A resting in one.

    Re: Any Josh Williams fans?

I agree with you, and Andrew is super nice as well. Eastman makes a good mandolin. They are well built with carved woods and traditional construction.

    Re: Any Josh Williams fans?

Brandon is super nice as well. I have purchased or traded some nice mandolins from him and his Dad over the past 37 years. You are in a very good place to learn. Good luck and enjoy the Journey!

    Re: Any Josh Williams fans?

He’s a great musician who loves what he does. I met him over 30 years ago, playing the banjo at a local monthly jam session. You are in good hands grasshopper!

Re: Best strings for vintage Gibson

My Gibson A is pretty loud if I want it to be. It was bought out of an antique store on Cape Cod, and it came with the original hard cloth case. The mandolin might have been stored for decades,...

Re: Best strings for vintage Gibson

I use EJ62’s on my 1916 Gibson A. They sound good and are easy on the neck and my fingers. I play at home, so loudness is not an issue for me. Congratulations on your Gibson A1.
  17. Re: Ellis-Pava A modlels no longer being made?

Life is a cornucopia of unforeseen changes. Add this one to the long list of them. I'm very happy to have my Pava A5 Satin. :-)
