Hope your birthday was great. I was just listening to 220 yesterday; must have been some Don vibe floating around. I'll see you in Maryville in June.

I got to try out Mike's instruments today at the flatpicking/fiddling contests in Lawrence and they are sound and play as good as they look. (Which is saying a lot.) I especially liked the oval hole...
I was at a workshop with Herschel Sizemore and when tuning he would push on the string afterward with the pick to stretch it. I asked him why and he said that if you tune up to the correct pitch and...
I can definitely play better sitting or standing but being kind of lazy it's nice to play lying down watching some tv. I think this teaches us something else if you end up playing along with the...
On the link mentioned above (http://www.12fret.com/retail/mwoodley.htm) I have the 4th one down. It has a very full oval hole sound and is one of the most beautiful mandolins I've seen. The binding...
That is a great looking octave Mike. I really like the stain the way it is. Where did the wood come from?
I have an MT2 from 9 99 and to me it's as good as any other I've tried through the years. They are certainly consistent but some just got an extra dose of mojo or something.
Herschel was one of the instructors at the last Mandolin Symposium. He is an excellent teacher and a great mandolin player (obviously). Also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. If you can make...
The mando player has been a regular attendee at the Mandolin Symposium. Very nice guy and played a mean mandocello too.
Matt Sircely of Hot Club Sandwich (who led the swing sessions last year) has a book with tab and notation of all these and more songs. You could get in touch with him through their website. I would...
I have #15. It's dated 9 99 and is an MT2.
I love Ry Cooder's work, especially the early material and was hoping for some of that since the story this is built around is set in the depression. But for me, it's the weakest thing he's done. It...
Hi Hans. I really like the second version. What if the truss rod cover shape mirrored the peghead shape?

There is a great looking 3 point F4 style mandolin for sale on the cafe. It's an Old Time made in Rochester New York. His other instruments also look great. http://www.oldtimemandolin.com/
Does...
Here's another TablEdit question. I just reloaded the whole program after a computer crash and it works great except the print preview doesn't do anything. Any idea what the problem is? It's nice...
A lot of the O'Carolan tunes would be good for wedding music.
There's a monthly jam at Bar Roma/Waldeaux Wines which comes up this Saturday. It's at 2PM, nice bunch of people, various levels of players but nobody is incredibly advanced (i.e. professional...
I was at the Symposium last year and both Marshall and Thile were very big on using armrests on their mandos. (Especially Chris.) Are they both still using them?
Don S was playing his Collings. Sounded great and it's more easily replaced than his Monteleone or Nugget.
I don't know if Lil Rev is psychic, a hypnotist or whatever, but as he predicted I did wake up this morning singing Baby's Got the Rickets.
I would do just the buttons assuming the tuners work- more authentic and less money. The real answer is to have a repairperson look at it in person and give you their opinion.
The mando with the scroll on the head was (and I guess still is) a De'Angelico. Really a beautiful instrument with a unique voice.
Has anyone tried one of the Larrivee ukes? http://www.sprucetreemusic.com/larriveeukes.jpg
They are great looking and based on their guitars I would assume they sound just as good.
Jeff- Can you explain what you mean about thinking in thirds and fifths? Thanks.
