  1. Re: Tips on getting more volume out of a 3 week old Mando?

Keep playing the ever living heck out of it and if you believe the folklore, resting it against the front of a speaker with Black Sabbath set to 11 for a day or two may help as well.

Re: New Kentucky KM-606 mandolins are in the wild!

I like it but then again I've always liked a black-faced mandolin (are we allowed to say this?) and even had a nice black Flatiron A once upon a time. Good on Eastman for trying something different.
  4. Re: Mandolin Tasting: Gibsons, Buckeye, Duff, Northfiled

Tough! I like the lot and really like a few a few. Here's my order: 1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 6 though I'm almost positive that I'd reorder upon a second listen. My guess is the no. 1 is either the LL or...

Thanks for your good humor and thoughts everyone. Rest assured that Bucky isn't going anywhere though I am considering having the neck scooped so I can hit the stings where and how I want to, not...

Kentucky 272 and my big problem

After putting MAS to sleep for a long while I read this review of the Kentucky 272 written by MC member MikeZito back in 2017. If you're not familiar with this model it's an amber colored oval hole...

    Case for Martin A mandolin

    Knowledgeable people,

I've got what purports to be a nearly perfect SS Steward/Martin arriving in a few days. As you can imagine, I'm excited as I've put MAS off for nearly a decade. The only...

Re: Gator Deluxe ABS Molded Case

Thanks y'all for the great thoughts and photos! Well, if a Gator isn't getting to be a big step up from my old wooden case and case cover, I may just stick with what I have. Damn, working at home...

    Gator Deluxe ABS Molded Case

    Hey Gang,

Does anyone have experience with these hard cases? I'm looking to upgrade my plain Jame wood covered with black fake leather (?). It has a nice case cover and has served my well but I'm...

Re: 1974 Gibson F5 - what's top of the market?

Unless you're hell bent on owning a Gibson and are prepared to spend more money to kinda sorta fix it, why not simply buy a different brand that will likely sound better and be less expensive?...

    Re: Naming your Mandolin

The Buckeye F5 is, err, Buckey, while my Flatiron mandola remains unnamed for some reason. Our cars are Rocky (the color or rocks) and Irene (purchased during Hurricane Irene).

Re: Original cost of a Lloyd Loar F5

According to www.usinflationcalculator.com that $250 back in 1923 is equivalent to $3,744.78 in today's money. Not as much as I would have thought. What's a Gibson MM going for these days? Hmmmm.
  25. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

They should as those mandolins are arguably better (in my opinion) than the majority of Gibsons in circulation.
