Very nice! I cannot see how you get such great tone and clarity with just fingers!

    Re: TI Single Strings

Don’t know about singles, but I have a complete set of 174s I can’t use. Bought them by mistake for my OM. PM me, if you’re interested. I’ll make you a good deal.

Re: “The gibson” stencil or decal

That logo was never there. Some models had an inlaid logo, but none had a stenciled logo till later years. You must have a plain A. I had a 1920 A—no logo.
Which is not to say you can’t apply one,...

    Re: A new mandola

No need to apologize for your playing! A luthier playing his own instrument seems perfect to me. Amazing tone and resonance.

    Gibson A-4, Teens vs 20s

    There is a really good-looking Gibson A-4 in the classifieds. I think it’s from about 1924. $5000.

I recently bought a 1915 A-4, had it refretted and set up beautifully. I have less than $3000 in...

    Re: Ugliest F-4 ever?

Makes you think maybe the builder was blind. Some decent woodworking skills, but a total lack of awareness of visual design.

    Re: Soggy’s Slip Jig

Thanks, folks! It is odd that I can upload that mp.3, but cannot open it myself.

The recording was done with just my iPad, no external mic. I do love the tune. I learned it straight from notation...

    Soggy’s Slip Jig

    195673

Not sure if this will work or not. I can’t get it to open on my iPad.

Anyway, I just learned this one and haven’t seen it anywhere here before.

Why is it used “all too often”? Looks like a great tool. :)
  18. Re: Familiarity and the appeal of a specific mandolin

I regularly switch between my Collings MT and my MTO. Same feel, different sound. I struggled with the MTO for awhile. There was something different in the feel under my fingers. It was driving me...

    Re: Memorizing a song

Do that. Then play the tune, with a metronome, at slowly increasing speeds 200 times.

    Celtic Mando vs Bandolim

Hard to know where to post this…Anyway, would someone care to explain the difference between a genuine Celtic mandolin and a bandolim? They sure look similar to me.

    Re: Narrowing my string search....

I can’t answer your last question, but I can recommend GHS Silk and Bronze. I used them for years, then started a search for strings I might like better. So far, I haven’t found them.
