    Re: Northfield Mandolins

I've had my F5S (2018 model) almost 3 years now...pretty much cured MAS for me.
Read about them for a few years, and finally got my hands on one at Fiddler's Green on a trip to Austin.
    I may have...
  2. Re: Bill Monroe's Mandolin: When Mr. Monroe was 21 years old

Aside from his famous "hairdo", Larry actually did play fiddle (violin).
Imagine if he played mandolin, and was an inspiration for young Bill. :O

Re: So, bought a used Rogue... Huh...

My first mandolin was a Rogue, bought off of craigslist. Took Rob M's setup book and went to town on it.
Cheap entry price to learn/know I wanted to play mandolin and get a better one.

    Re: John Prines mandolin player.

Go to a Shinyribs show; the big guy can dance and sing, and I'm wowed every show.

He plays mandolin too. One of the main reasons I took up mandolin, was from watching him front the Gourds. As...

    Re: Two mandos become one

Don't mean to downplay your work, but it sounds more like maintenance than upgrades. Replacing a bridge (especially a bridge off a Johnson--a "stock" grade bridge) and some screws, made the Rover...

    Re: Mando Mention on Jeopardy

Hey, better attention than we're getting on HBO's Crashing. Twice now I've heard the main character hurl this insult...
"Go tune a mandolin, you $:@!!"

But maybe, he's also confusing the banjo...

Re: Jackie Gleason's mandolin players story

Great intro by Johnny, great interview, great closing comments...he really was the Great One.
What a time capsule piece...smoking on set, talking about the (already then) old days, that "kid"...

Re: Good sounding f style for $300-400

2 nods to the rover rm-75.
I have one, bought used for <$250, been pretty happy with it for a few years now. Even had a few Gibson owners compliment it's sound.

    Re: Banjo Ben Clark Instruction

    Does anyone watch Workaholics?
