  1. Re: Fender FM60E truss rod: single action or double action?

I bought my mando used and I don't believe it came with stock machines but could be mistaken. The tuning buttons were metal, not the perloid I've seen in pictures. That said, mine had the vintage...

    Re: HB Tenor Guitar

For comparison here's the HB beside the Ibanez PFT2NT and Ibanez AVT1. The Ibanez PFT2NT is plywood the others are solid tops. Ibanez did have a PFT1 that was solid woods but mysteriously disappeared...

    Re: HB Tenor Guitar

I understand what you're saying. Most traditional Martin, Gibson and other tenors were 6-stringers with a tenor neck slapped on and tend to sound meh. Makers had to move the bridge forward to lesson...

    Re: HB Tenor Guitar

I think it best to defer to Fox on this. He's better at explaining the technical stuff.

I've found that as the bridge moves closer to the neck/soundhole for 14 instead of 12-frets to the body, the...

    HB Tenor Guitar

Perhaps old news - I see Harley Benton has a tenor guitar ($200-ish) with a solid top and the bridge in the right place, although the copywriters don't seem exactly sure what it is they're writing...

Re: I've gone to the dark side

Great suggestions all. Keep them coming.

The string tension was really sloppy when I got it. The fellow said it came from the store in CGDA but he tuned it to Chicago (DGBE) so I took a chance and...

I've gone to the dark side

This basically new Alabama tenor banjo followed me home today. I know nothing about banjos but it does look to be very well built with a Remo head. Tuning machines are serviceable and a quick tweak...

  11. Re: And now for something completely different

Builder is out of Montreal Canada.
  12. Re: And now for something completely different

The Reverb listing says you can reach out to him/her. Since this is a small builder I'd be included to send an email asking for things like a 21" scale, 2 pickups and more controls. Those are really...
  13. And now for something completely different

Ran across this on Reverb (NFI). It's different but I like it. I appreciate builders that go outside the box with their designs and this certainly does that. What do you folks think?

  14. Re: Fender FM60E 5 string electric mando intonation...

I had quite a time getting mine to intonate as well. I took it to my tech who:

    - shortened the C-string spring so the saddle can move back further (as noted eariler), and
    - did some work to get...
  15. Re: Eastwood Mandocaster - bad string level balance

Sure, but I don't think that's not going to accomplish much. On these cheap instruments the pickup pole pieces are all the same. It isn't until you get into the customs like Almuse that they vary the...

Thanks - I see them on the usa site from those links.

    Ibanez Tenors appear discontinued

I took a look at Ibanez's 2021 offerings and don't see any tenor guitars in the lineup.

Of the two they did have, the parlour would...
  18. Re: Ibanez AVT1NT Artwoods Series Tenor Guitar

    Those are nice. Enjoy.

I think they should have done these as 12 frets to the body, not 14. That would move the bridge into the middle of the body which should yield a fuller, louder tone.

    Re: Mini Jazzmaster HH

That means they'll end up going cheap.

With a few upgrades I'd do anyway - machines, pickups, electronics, bridge/nut, setup - I'm thinking they can be made into a player. All I really would be...

    Re: Mini Jazzmaster HH

I'd leave the neck but do a new nut and bridge for a 5-string tenor. I like wide spacing anyway.

It's not far from a tenor Jaguar and I like the colors.

  22. Re: Eastwood Classic Tenor - Experiences from other owners?

That's unfortunate as it's the only Eastwood tenor I've fancied so far.

Here's a quick fix. If the buzzing goes away when you put your hand on the strings then you need to ground them. The easy...

    Re: Metal Mandolins

I had a Republic Mandolian, which I believe uses the same body as the Recording King and Johnson. The key difference is the Republic has an adjustable truss rod, the others don't so warping and...
  24. Re: Eastwood Classic Tenor - Experiences from other owners?

According to the way you're explaining it, it sounds like you have a grounding problem.

The most common reason for this is the wire connecting the strings (via the bridge/tailpiece) to ground...
  25. Re: WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals...

Since context is everything, imagine the meaning the line, "This product can expose you to chemicals...", would have conjured up in the 60s and 70s music scene?
