    Re: New Eastman Octave tuners?

Mine are doing the same thing as others have described. What it looks like to me is the tuning shaft is bent so during about 180deg of rotation the gears don’t contact one another. Also like has been...

    Re: Strings for Eastman MDO-305

Thank you Mike, I had not thought of using Mandola strings, but given the shorted neck than a traditional Octave, it makes sense.

    Strings for Eastman MDO-305

I just ordered a MDO-305 and know it comes with D'Addario J-80 stings. Has anyone tried other strings like the GHS PF285s. Thanks

    Re: Saying Hello

Hello and Welcome. You picked a nice 1st mando. Eastman sound good and if you want to trade it or sell it, they hold their value well also. Have fun and keep with it.

Re: just bought my first mandolin

    Welcome Nate,
I cannot give you any advice switching from banjo to mando, but I have been playing guitar for years and just got my fist mando 10 months ago. Like others have said, it is easy...

I am also a guitar player and have striggled with some of the same issues since buying my first mando last January. I have found that my fingers have just adapted and are still...

    Re: Cleaning Tips

Big Joe is right....water or light soap and water on a slightly damp cloth. You never want your wood to get wet or it can damage the wood beyond repair. Matin Guitars makes a great polish and so does...

    Re: Video or DVD lessons

Youtube is a great place to start. There are several instructors there teaching basic Mando chop chords, playing scales, and teaching various chords. Other than that, check out Wayne Erbsen's website...

    Re: Easy songs for Newbies?

I have found the easiest songs are simple songs you already have in your head and work them out....usually songs from your childhood. Row Row Row Your Boat, Amazing Grace, Happy Birthday, etc.

    Rattlesnake Rattle

I saw the Bill Monroe DVD and he talked about the rattlesnake rattle he kept in his Mando. I understand he did that just to keep cobwebs from growing ad I guess for luck. Do many Mando players do...
