Thanks Eric. The reason I ask is that I just got a mandolin strung with Thomastik strings*. The strings are at least two years old (mandolin was stored) and have a medium colored dark blue wrap. My...
  2. Color of Thomastik Wrapping on Heavy Gauge

Can you tell me the color of the wrap used on the heavy gauge Thomastik mandolin strings?
I know that the light gauge is a cream color and that medium is black.
    Thanks.

    Re: Washburn Bowlback Tailpiece

Yeah, I will put the non-original (vintage) tailpiece on this Washburn. It's probably playable. We'll see in a week or so.

Charley, I did win the bid on that Washburn bowlback. I'll take that tailpiece and maybe the pickguard. Not sure what I'll do with the carcass.

    Re: Washburn Bowlback Tailpiece

Thanks Charley. I've been looking at that listing. I wrote to the seller but have not gotten a reply. If I do get it, I'll offer the tuners (or the entire instrument) back here for cheap.

Re: Bauer Sears Acme Blingsville Bowlback

"It looks like the bowlback is 1903 because of the etching of the date in the upper inlay."
Correction: the date is engraved in the inlay on the back of the headstock.

Re: Bauer Sears Acme Blingsville Bowlback

I think the catalog is from 1899. It looks like the bowlback is 1903 because of the etching of the date in the upper inlay. So, it doesn't exactly match the catalog, but No. 40 is certainly a...
