Not sustain of a picked note that is allowed to ring. What I am describing is what happens right after a struck note/chord is muted and applies to what I like to hear in both instruments.
I was discussing this with someone last night and came up with two examples of what I am describing.
To my ears, "dry" tone means that if you strike and mute a note, it dies with no echo or...
