    Re: Anderson F on Ebay

I made an offer more in line with the market and the seller replied that the BIN is what it would take to own it.

    Compare and contrast, por favor

Having learned my lesson not to ask what is "better", I will approach this a different way.

I am looking at mandolins from the following luthiers with a purchase later this year or early next. I...

Re: Best years for a luthier?

I started this thread because I spoke to one highly regarded luthier who told me that a mandolin from his earlier years was significantly different from later as he perfected his craft. He seemed to...

Re: Best years for a luthier?

That works, now I just need to research the age of each luthier.

    Best years for a luthier?

I have come across more than one mandolin luthier where the consensus is that there are some years that are better/more desirable than others. For example, the later year Givens mandolins are...

Good to know. I may increase my budget. If I do, it is between your Buckeye and the new Skipper posted today in the Classifieds.

    Re: That high, lonesome sound

Not sustain of a picked note that is allowed to ring. What I am describing is what happens right after a struck note/chord is muted and applies to what I like to hear in both instruments.

    Re: That high, lonesome sound

I was discussing this with someone last night and came up with two examples of what I am describing.

To my ears, "dry" tone means that if you strike and mute a note, it dies with no echo or...

    Re: That high, lonesome sound

The RD is sold. Are these known for a dry, woody tone? If not, I would not be interested regardless of value.

    Re: That high, lonesome sound

    I am in Portland, OR.

I understand that tone is subjective, etc., which is why I linked a couple of sound clips. Hopefully those can give y'all an idea of where to point me.

    That high, lonesome sound

    Hi all,

Long time listener, first time caller.

I am a guitar player looking to learn the mandolin. Being very familiar with acquisition syndrome, I want to get a mandolin that I won't soon feel...
