Re: Help identifying an old bowlback

I've seen a few old bowlbacks with a similar star.

As for "Budget model? ", well, sort of, not a lot of ribs nor decorations, but I've seen a lot lower grade ones too.

Re: Any ideas on what this is?

Indeed, the Kent is not quite as good as a DeArmond; however it does have a vintage tone and works OK.

Re: Djangolin, D.J. Hodson, Selmer Mandolin

I'm sure that there are some fine mandolins made in imitation of Selmer guitars, but so far I've been under impressed with the 3-4 examples I've played on over the years at NAMM shows.
  10. Re: Dio Dinos Electric Greek Bouzouki looking for information

It's not a bouzouki for sure!

    Re: Really good tremelo exercises?

You're not getting the volume because you are not actually plucking the string, you are just sliding across or over the strings.

From the POV of an Italian style player, you need to use the...
  16. Re: Hello! I am new and in need of some bowlback advice.

Perhaps in the USA, but in Europe the bowlback is still popular for classical music.

How about using the "Ballo Liscio" thread and learn some Italian music? After all, it was an Italian instrument first!

    Re: 1915 Vracas Bouzouki Strings

Personally when dealing with a vintage bouzouki, I'd say either play it in a Greek tuning or sell it and get an octave mandolin if that's more suited to the player's style.
