    Re: Capos

I appreciate all the info / opinions..

My music partner has a knack for singing in keys that are much easier to play in capo'd, so I've been using one (Shubb) more these days. The Shubb works well...

I'm hoping this is the right place for this... if not please redirect me... Not much mando-content here, but I know there are many others who also love mando, while having another primary...

    Re: Source for Grommets

By way of an alternative to the neverending grommet dilemma, Doug Edwards makes string mutes out of nicely finished woods (matching the armrests he makes) that velcro onto the strings. They do a good...

    Re: Strap help

When I was having the same problem I used Mandroid's suggestion (bread bag thingy)- just had to enlarge the hole slightly to fit on the peg properly & it worked like a charm. I like the washer idea...

    Re: Arm rests

I have 2 (ebony & flame maple) McClungs from Doug Edwards as well. Agree with all the positive comments others have already expressed & nothing on the negative side (stain or damage).
    Doug was...

Re: Strap for A Model,,any thoughts??

I also cast a vote for the Longhollow Softy - http://www.longhollowleather.com/catalog_dobro.htm - I had one that was tied under the fretboard extension on my Larrivee A30 + when I got my old Gibson...

Re: Guitar Toolkit App for iPhone

There was a previous thread some time ago about the peterson strobe iphone app to which I posted:

"For the same price you might want to also look at Guitar Toolkit, which has a tuner I've found to...

    Re: Extra long mandolin strings

You could try Newtone Strings. I've played 'em for years on my guitars & like 'em on my mandos too. They make several trad-style strings in various guages....

    Re: Mandolins in Toronto?

Definitely "The Fret". Bought my first mando from them a couple of years ago (KM 505). I've dealt with them for years. Great guys, not on commission like some places where the motivation is to sell...

    Re: Gibson's "new" F4

I'm concerned now, in the context of the recent flood disaster, whether this new model will actually be available in production. Was it being produced at one of the flooded sites?

    Re: Tuner Suggestions?

I have not used the AW-2 (yet), but I've had an AW-1 since they first came out & it is definitely the most accurate clip-on I've used. The aspect that detracted from it (no back-light so hard to see...

    Re: Best guitar for $300-400?

Another brand under the Godin corporate umbrella which is very worthy of consideration is Simon & Patrick. They seem to be of better quality than the Art & Lutherie brand.

Re: To Drill Or Not to Drill

I've got a K&K with a Tapastring vintage jack in my mando.
I had been prepared to have the endpin hole enlarged for the 1/4" jack, but the concern expressed by the luthier who did the job was that...

    Re: Good metronome

I'll second Mike Romkey's mention of the "Guitar Toolkit" iphone app. Name's somewhat misleading as it can be set for 6/12-string guitar, 4/5/6-string bass, Mando, Uke, and Banjo (of all things). ...

Re: Anyone Installed a K&K Twin in their Mandolin?

I recently had a K&K installed with the Tapastring Vintage jack in my Larrivee A33. A concern expressed by the Luthier who did the job was that the end block of my mandolin is so much smaller than a...
  17. Re: Curious about Taylor vs Breedlove vs Collings vs Martin

While there are the inherent "maker-related" tendencies in tone, I think probably as significant is the body-shape. While Martins do tend toward bass-heavy in the Dreads, you can find better...

Re: Replace tuning machines on a Gibson A

    Paul,

Any idea when Stewmac will be releasing the replicas? The gears look like a higher ratio - true?

I followed your (excellent) how-to on cleaning the Handel tuners on my 1914 A4, and could...

Re: Replacements for Handel tuners on 1914 A4??

Thanks Jamie, for the link. I may have no other option anyway, as all the sets @ stewmac are off slightly in the screw spacing from the Handels - I'd really like to avoid any new holes-(if I'm using...

Replacements for Handel tuners on 1914 A4??

The gears on a couple of the pegs on my old A4 are getting pretty tired after nearly 100 years of service, and while they are still functional, they're not functioning really well
    I was wondering...
