Good work. You have, however, included many tunes by known composers whos work should be acknowledged at the very least.

If you are looking to place a triplet before the first beat of the tune -kickoff , lead-in, anacrusis- then why not try UDU / DU DU DU DU? Rather like a fiddler's up bow.
DUD gives better rhythm...
Note that despite the 4 on a plate tuners, this is a trichordo bouzouki - three courses usually tuned D3D4–A3A3–D4D4.
Answering my own question. A Vega mandola/ mandolin hybrid originally I think. Looks like the nut has been modified at some point. Nice instrument at an amazing price. Worth a little investment I...
10 strings! Any ideas as to what this might be? Photo of the nut seems to suggests 3 x first and second courses, 2 x third and fourth.
The floating (?) "Miro pickguard" seems to be a latter addition. The two pins presumably locate in holes drilled in the fingerboard. Curious as to the function of the metal bracket near the...
Differences in woods ( the RMA5NA is all mahogany with an Ovangkol fretboard & bridge, whereas the RMAE40SBK is maple back and sides and neck with a spruce top with a Rosewood fretboard & bridge) and...
I'd second a Carlton. The mandolin dates from 1990 and I think Dave's builds would warrant a Carlton case. That looks like one of Keith's old stickers beneath the handle. Nice looking mandolin too.
Unfortunately, Clem Vickery passed away in February. I don't know if his family intend to continue the business.
Looks like that bridge has been glued in place. It should be free and held in place by string tension.
RE; M19s post- The clamp hanger above is designed for use on a mic stand or similar. I think you can rotate the clamp jaws through 90 degrees so that it can be clamped on a table top. I have one,...
Keith Richards' first plectrum...?
Any effect pedal with an input impedance of 1Meg Ohms will act as a buffer. You don't need to engage the "effect" just need to power up the pedal.
As far as further tone shaping goes-I note that...
Maybe " Ebonised"?
As noted above, one set of 4 tuning machines has been replaced. The tailpiece also is not original, and looks like a home made replacement.
Using any piezo pickup successfully requires impedance matching. The pickup signal should be fed into an input of at least 1M Ohms. I see that the Boss GE-7 has a 1M Ohm impedance, but I seem to...
As observed by dhergert above, the played strings appear to be loop ended. It seems to me that this installation is a solution to fitting loop strings which were otherwise too short.
An ingenious...
From what I can recall, he said putting the mandolin strings slightly out of tune made it sound more "Italian" ( It did!)
At a workshop he gave here in England, he demonstrated five string banjo...
Similar deal with the old Carlsboro Marlin PA heads.
Fantastic, bombproof workhorses. The FX loop out and in sockets on the rear panel could be prone to oxidisation. Result - no signal! A bit of a...
Hi Scott
If tuning the Tenor banjo to GDAE then that should be one octave below
the pitch for mandolin using strings of appropriate gauge. As stated above , the banjo's longer scale length will...
The plectrum tucked into the strings at the tailpiece looks interesting...
An interesting find. Further to the Leeds connection I remember an instrument maker/repairer called Arthur Hunt, who had a small shop on North Street at least until the mid 1970s. I wonder if his...
