Re: looking for a travel mando

A gal showed up with a little travel mando from Montana Lutherie at last week's get together.

Cute little thing. In the $500 range. Looks like you can order a wide nut. NFI

  5. Re: Best mandolin wall stand, e.g. hook etc?

    I'm a String Swing guy.

I went for the functional wall art approach: I ordered two oak kits from String Swing. I finish sanded the wood they sent me, then stained it and put a bunch of thin...

If my wife gave me the green light on an electric mandolin, I would be inhabiting another universe because it ain't happenin' in this one...

    Re: Explain This Chord

I'll take a stab at it:

The notes in an A chord are:

    Root - A
    3rd - C#
    5th - E

Playing the second fret on the G & D strings, the notes are A & E - both notes are in the A chord

Not entirely sure how I stumbled across these, but I picked up a set of Mick's Picks at Guitar Center one day (NFI). They are a composite felt that is, to my limited experience, absolutely nothing...

    Are Eastmans a keeper?

    Mine (MD315) ain't going nowhere.

    Here's an idea from StewMac:

    Guitar Tech Screwdriver Set

Maybe more appropriate for a guitar player, but super handy little tool kit with a million bits for all things diminuitive.

Re: Tuning Mandolin without a tuner

I'm a bit of a noob, but it seems to me that the harmonic at the 7th fret of a given string is the 5th of the open string, albeit an octave higher:
