    Re: Frank Wakefield

I was a lucky enough to jam with Frank a few times, as he lives locally, he is a character to be sure, his playing is very "hard core" Bluegrass and very Monroe influenced. I agree he never...

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

Welcome to mando maddness, mandolin is quite a different animal than guitar or uke. Lessons from day 1 are highly advisable as there a lot of "bad" habits that can be hard to get rid of later.

    Re: Vice grip fingers

I can't stress enough how important relaxing while playing is, sounds obvious but I find I had to be cautious of "rigidness" in both left and right hand. I have learned to relax a lot more and my...

Re: post a video of yourself

Here's a little attempt at Miles Davis's "Nardis" on a Weber Black Ice Octave and a Weber Yellowstone Mandola, I think the two compliment each other nicely. I love the sparseness of this tune,...

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

Jim its possible we've crossed paths, though I don't get down to Westchester much these days ( hardly leave the house to be honest), but if you want to pick a tune out of Coles or two for a medley...

    Re: Nut Width Preference?

Good topic Mando Bart - I defiantly prefer the 1-3/8 over the 1-1/8.
My 20 F4 is even slightly wider than 1-3/8, and i would say that is about as I wide as I can take on a mandolin.
    I do struggle...

Re: Grisman's mando at Rockygrass ID?

on the Giacomel, Grisman did an online "taste testing" of many of his mandolins, and I will say the Giacomel he played there was the overall best sounding, Crusher, the Monteleone and the 25 F5 all...

Re: Key of the song based on the melody

The simplest way I think of modes, and I have to give Flinner credit here, is the whole and half step pattern.
