    Northfield Workshop S-Series NFS-F5WN

Just received one of these that Fiddler's Green installed Dadderio Flat Wounds on at my request. Perfectly packaged and she exceeds my expectations. The wide nut is all that I hoped it would be, I...

    Re: Flat Wound Strings

My new Northfield is being shipped with the Dadderio flats and I ordered some TI's to try next.
  3. Re: Emotional hearing, and changing out my 7-year old strings...

Happy that that it was not "Dog Years". I tend to be a less than new string player myself, but that would be a record for me. I have an electric winder that helps out when I do change strings.

    Flat Wound Strings

I have used flat wound strings on many instruments but never a mandolin. Anyone have some experience with them? I have always used the TI strings but they cost a bunch. I have seen the half flat...
  5. Re: Waiting for a Northfield Big Mon (Wide Nut/Red Spruce)

Great positive reviews and the price is reasonable. I have owned expensive instruments such as a Custom D45, 2 D28 Authentics and 3 Custom Heritage Super Eagles and have found that the mega extras...

If it was red spruce instead of Engleman it would be in Southwest Louisiana.

Re: F hole on the side?

I had a sound port done on a baritone ukulele...it does make it easier to hear yourself play. It wasn't an F hole.
  8. Waiting for a Northfield Big Mon (Wide Nut/Red Spruce)

Decided to upgrade from my Kentucky KM750, and now I wait until the Northfield Dealer gets an ordered Big Mon (Wide Nut/Red Spruce) in stock. I like the anticipation.

    Re: Documenting my journey

Are you giving out Emmy Award afterparty invitations to forum members yet? Just kidding...good luck with the journey.
  15. Re: Protecting mandolins from changes in climate

High humidity is easier to deal with...buy a dehumidifier and use it in the room where your instruments live. If low humidity is an issue (never had that problem in South Florida or South...

    Re: Problems with playability. Help!

Buy a dehumidifier and set it to 50% relative humidity.
  17. Re: What price level and up gets you a "lifelong keeper" mandolin

My two cents (discounted by inflation etc.) This depends on your (in order) needs, goals, aspirations etc. If you are an aspiring performer, buy the most expensive mandolin you can steal, connive,...
