Re: ? about Dunlop Primetone picks...

I used a Prime Tone, large triangle, 1.5mm Dark Brown smooth (non-grippy) pick for about 2 years, until I finally settled on a Blue Chip TP60.

The Prime Tones are really good picks - they deliver...

Re: Thomastik's for MDO-305 Eastman Octave

    Thanks F-D!

Yeah, I bought a cheaper flat-topped OM last year, used. Been playing it a lot more this year, but it needs new strings, hence the question. Will give the Mandola strings a shot.

Re: Thomastik's for MDO-305 Eastman Octave

Hi Fatt-dad - I'm afraid I can't help you with the Thomastik question, but I have a question for you!

Just wondering what difference using D'addario 72 Mandola strings made to your OM, rather than...
  5. Re: which is better mass produced mando...Loar or Eastman

Thanks for the update! Enjoy your new mandolin - I had an Eastman 505 for about 3 years. They're good mandolins.

    Eastman, without a doubt.

    Re: Eastman MD305 = AMAZING!

Hi Bren - the MD305 is around 530 here in the UK.

One of my sons has one and it's a really good mandolin - loud, woody chop, and great tone. The tuners aren't the best, but it plays (and stays)...
  8. Re: Advice: new Hohner A style vs Kentucky KM-150

If itís a straight choice between the KM150 and the Hohner, then the Kentucky wins hands down.

However, the Eastman 305 is also a great sounding mandolin.

    Re: Anyone heard from almeriastrings?

I haven’t seen or heard from him for ages, either. We bought a really nice KM1000 from him a few years ago. Hope he’s alright.

Re: Tone Gard - Comfortable ?

I’ve used one for about 7 years now. In my experience they add volume and depth/resonance to the sound - it’s a “bigger” sound, if that makes sense?

It makes the mandolin a little heavier, but...

Re: Sierra Hull- tone tips video

I have a couple of Primetone large triangle 1.5’s, without the grip. They’re good picks, that give a lot of volume and decent tone. They were my go-to picks for a couple of years until I tried the...

I've been using a TP60 for the last few years - slightly smaller than a TAD shape.

Mile Twelve win an IBMA Award

Just heard that Bluegrass band Mile Twelve, which features David Benedict on mandolin, has picked up the Best Newcomer award at the 2020 IBMA Awards.

Saw them last year here in the UK, and they...

    Re: Weber Gallatin no logo

Does it have a Weber/Sound to Earth label inside, And is there a serial number?

If so, you could either contact Weber, or Montana Lutherie, which is Bruce Weber’s new business venture.

    Another +1 for Kentucky.

Eastmans are also very good instruments.

Every Loar I’ve seen here in the UK has had a really thick neck and very thick varnish, with runs and drips in it. Could...
