I'd say take that book money and spend it at Artistworks or Peghead Nation for beginners lessons. More bang for your buck than books. If you want notation on paper, you can also download notation for...

To hear some brilliant mandolin work on Christian music, check out Mark Stoffel's support of Nathan Clark George on the album "Mid Winter's Eve" and I believe it is him as well on George's album,...
Gorgeous music video. Thanks for posting!
Propranolol is rarely prescribed for blood pressure. It crosses the blood/brain barrier better than metoprolol and is the drug of choice for performance anxiety. However if already on a beta blocker...
A few years ago I heard an artist make the statement that if you listen to a song more than three times you should buy it or the full CD. That seemed reasonable to me so I have gone with it. There is...
This mandolin market seems odd to me. I recently sold a mint Collings MT here on the Cafe. I broke even on the price I had paid for it, but sold it at a $900 discount to everything else I saw on the...
Amen to what Lou Reed said.

Started my Covid mandolin project with Sharon and Marla at Peghead and graduated to Ms. Hull at Artist. I would recommend all of them highly. I now grab specific tunes from The Session and Barron....
Which one? The Collings MT amber I'm selling.
"Master Luthier" would be the next step up from "Pretty Good Luthier," or "Not Bad Luthier."
A favorite. Thanks for sharing.
It is not the tinnitus that causes this problem, but a response called "hyperacusis" that may or may not accompany tinnitus in hearing loss. It seems counter-intuitive that you would hear sounds more...

There have been a couple recent Nickel Creek, Punch Bros threads recently. Just got an email announcing an album of a new bluegrass group, Mighty Poplar, with a couple of the Brothers, sans Thile....
Not sure if I got a thumbs up emoji, here, but now I see where you are coming from.
Have been to busy yet to download the album from my pre-purchase at Bandcamp ($10, my what a deal), so can't comment. But seriously, hard to imagine people, especially here, not liking Punch...
Jim, A great description of the sound, "dry yet sweet." Not too loud. I don't think it would stand out in a band, but lovely for quieter environments.
Thanks Mary for that background story.
One of the recent, late winter, TME Campanella's found its way to my home this week - that being the A5 (2010). I was complementing Steven on his mando porn photography. And it's true, no real...
I'm with you ljmaddux. Not only has the A string been a problem on my mandolins, but also my fiddle. Even more is the D note on the A string.
Didn't see anyone else comment yet on this, but I just ordered Elixir mando strings from JustStrings. Seems like they are now available after a long hiatus. My favorite strings.
"It doesn't work that way. We still pay, just through our tax structure."
And get to wait 5x as long for specialty care.
You would think that somebody would want to ship a Northfield, North.
