Re: New Project - Guy Clark Cover

Really fine playing and singing, Evan. And a fine recording and mix too! I think Guy would approve.
  2. Poll: Re: Vintage Flatiron Performer A (1993, Bozeman) vs Eastman MD305

The Flatiron should be a substantial upgrade over the Eastman.
  3. Re: Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin

That mando sounds so good in your hands. We'll take more videos any time you want to post them. Enjoy!

    Re: Artistworks question

If you're a beginner, I'd recommend in-person or private video lessons. I saw beginners with messed up pick direction and other problems on Artistworks, but they don't get a response for 2 weeks on...

Re: EVO frets after 10 years

It sure sounds good with some fresh strings. Those Curt Mangans still sounded fine after 6 months, but now I hear what I was missing.

Re: EVO frets after 10 years

I'm thinking I'll wait till I can get this one in Michael's hands since he made it. It still plays just fine--no problems. I really don't see the point of silver frets any more.

    EVO frets after 10 years

Just the beginning of wearing a flat spot on top of the fret crown and the tiniest of grooves. Can barely feel it rubbing your fingernail across it. Lots of playing time on these frets--I've owned it...

Re: Plug for Lessons with Mike Compton

  12. Re: Interesting Flatiron-style mandolins on Shopgoodwill

What became the RockyGrass Academy started in Telluride in the early 90s. Not sure of the exact date it started but I went to one, maybe in 1994. I remember there was a class where you could build a...
  13. Re: How has the mandolin changed your guitar playing?

I don't play guitar any more unless I'm absolutely forced to. Like driving a semi instead of a sports car.

Re: Dialing in live sound-monitors, mics etc

I've given up on mics in loud chatty places. I'd get a K&K pickup installed, a decent preamp, and you'll be able get a lot more volume in your monitors without feedback.

Re: post a video of yourself

Bruce (bbcee on the cafe and SAW group) got in touch with me about doing a collaboration on this tune from the "Gallop to Georgia" CD by Compton and Blake. It's an old tune played by Narmour and...

    Re: Model 1 New Tailpiece

Huge improvement over the original Model 1 tailpiece. I hated that tailpiece on the one I used to have.

    Re: Senheiser e609

It's a dynamic mic so you don't need phantom power for it. It's a mic used on electric guitar cabinets so it may not have high output. You'll need to test it with your PA to see how loud you can get....

    Re: Classified etiquette

A trend that's become worse: people ask questions and want a bunch of pictures and you never hear from them again once you respond. No common courtesy to take the time to say, "Thanks, I got the...

Re: Average Cost to Ship Mandolin in CONUS?

I prefer to use USPS Priority Express 2 day guaranteed shipping. It's doubled in price since I last used it, but still cheaper than FedEx/UPS 2 day. If it doesn't get there in 2 days, you get a...

Re: Do You Mix & Match Your String Set?

Maybe your pick is too deep in the strings on your tremolo. A tiny adjustment there can make a big difference in how easy it is to tremolo.
