I’m just rediscovering how much I used to love the band Diamond Rio when I was younger (before I was into mandolins). Anybody know what kind of mandolin he was playing during the 90’s??? I know it...
I like the tone of Blue Chips better. I hear more pick click with the Prime Tones and a little more treble. The Blue Chip sounds richer. I think the Prime Tone slides off the strings better than BC.
Just joined your Patreon! I can’t imagine how much time and work you out into the Thile transcription. Blows my mind how anyone can do this!
Hi Don….I was trying to do the basic setup myself (relief, intonation, action, nut slots), but no, it hasn’t had any fret work done.
Yes, I’m pressing 1st and 12th fret. The strings touch across all of the frets. Sounds like my neck is straight. Maybe I’ll just not worry about it! Thanks so much for your help!
Yes, I’m tuned up to full tension and there is still no relief with the nut loose. I bought it from Musicians Friend thinking I could do the setup.
Oh…single action truss rod! I guess I’m used to the double action truss rods on my guitars. So it’s not broken, it’s only going to have whatever natural relief it has when the nut is loose. There’s...
I just got a new Kentucky KM-252. The neck appears straight but I wanted to add a touch of relief. When I took off the truss rod cover, the adjustment nut was all the way tight as far as it will go....
Thank you so much Rob!! What a great resource!!!
Thanks for the input! I just put new strings on, and boy does it sound better! Open and airy... bassy G string and punchy A....just what I was looking for....anyhow, I can't say I notice the fretwear...
Just bought a 2004 Gibson A-9 off eBay. Needs new strings bad...easy fix. Frets 1-8 have indentions in them. I don't wanna spend the money on a refret job, but if I decide to, does anyone know a good...
You're gonna like it. I have a recent version with beautiful figuring on the back. It sounds really nice and woody.
Doesn't get much better than John Reischman.
Anybody else having the same problem with the neck?
Anybody know Ann app similar to Garageband but for Android?
I recently bought a 2017 J. Boviers A5. It's hands down better than any The Loar I've ever played. For $900, I guarantee you won't find anything that sounds better (to me). Jeff is great to do...
I prefer the symmetry and value of an A style.
Love this. Can't wait!
Love seeing John sporting a A-style on the album cover!!!!
Sounds fantastic. Thanks for posting that!
I know the KM-505 was updated in 2016. I can't decide if I like the new color.......what do you think of the color? How do the new ones sound? They are supposed to sound even better this...
Who prefers a flat fretboard and traditional frets (i.e. KM-900) over a radiused fretboard and large frets (i.e. KM-950). If you do, why is that? Thanks!
Hey Drew , thanks! I just want to play something different and compare it to my current J. Bovier. I don't care if it's high or low end....I'm gonna be at the KOA campground in Lookout Mountain, GA.
I'll be doing some camping there this weekend. Which music store in Chattanooga has the best selection of mandolins?
