Loved hearing your stories. I was a student from 84-85 and have one of his Carmelo Catania mandolins. Flat back, sweet sound and beautiful. Yes, he did indeed wear his jacket every time I was there....

I would suggest a Martin. Has a sweet sound - use light strings. Bowlbacks are sweet in sound but hard to hold. I have an Italian flat back made by Carmelo Catania - don't know if this type is...
