I ran across this today
eric, i wasn't picking on you specifically. i know where you're coming from BUT if you were to go on a car enthusiast message board and ask whether to get a ford or chevy, wouldn't you find it kind...
it never ceases to amaze me how people can't just answer the question "this brand or that brand" using the options given. you like bluegrass and old time. between the two options given, i say go for...
i've played with byron on a couple of occasions too and you are right about him being a great guy...very patient and surprisingly willing to pick with a hack like me....
i wasn't trying to hassle you in particular but i frequently see the same advice given to people asking about f style mandolins for beginners..."buy a mid-mo". all i'm saying is if you want an F...
all pretty good advice but if you want an F style mandolin i'd recommend you get the best F style you can afford (i would go with an Eastman). while mid mo may be great mandolins, they are definitely...
it's not really that hard..send me a pm if you want help. lotsa good stuff on there.
changed 'em last night (wish i could do it in 10 minutes). played I Saw the Light followed by Kelsterne Gardens
Great material for beginner/intermediate players IMHO. I use mine all the time.
oh man...that is funny http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
That's definitely good thinking. I have seen perfectly nice, well-meaning people bust up a BLUEGRASS jam by insisting on doing country song after country song with hardly a pause to give someone else...
mando johnny, i'm gonna have to issue you a ticket.
i've seen him many times and he is great. from what i understand, he uses the pinky of his left hand very little if any at all.
Just a little over 3 years (and 5 mandolins) here and still going strong.
I like the Gibson Monroes on my MD605...seem to bark better than J75's.
You say that your interest in mandolins stems from seeing live, local bluegrass. While I'm sure Mid-Mo makes a fine flat top, oval hole mandolin I think I would probably be safe to say that Mid-Mo is...
Hey Ron...i'll agree it was a great festival. Met some great people and had some fine pickin'. I even got invited to a jam later on in the week and had a great time. Shoot, I didn't even know they...
Looks great and displays just fine on my 800x600 screen resolution. Good job on the remake.
There used to be a jam there on tuesday nights but Joe and Mitzi quit having it about a year ago. Last i heard there was some discussion about starting it back up. I live near Knoxville (in Corryton)...
they must have better eyes than i do then! i just mentioned it because i find using the horizontal scroll bar a hassle and most sites i go to display fine at 800x600.
I'll agree with the too busy...also too wide to display on my 17" monitor at 800x600. Interesting stuff to read about the good, the bad and the ugly of web design at Web pages that suck. Your band...
I use Gibson Monroes or D'Addario J-75's on my 605
i've had one of his straps...went and picked it up at his office. he's a working stiff just like the rest of us. maybe he got a little behind or something but i'm sure he'll come through.
I can't see James giving it to anyone but IF that were to happen, those are definitely better choices.
Maybe not "better" but definitely not so funny-looking.
Or maybe i should say not so unorthodox in styling...no, i'm gonna stick with funny-looking....
