  1. Re: Feedbacks on my F Mandolin and complete gear :)

What a beautiful mandolin! Would love to hear it. I've always thought Blevins makes a great looking mandolin at a decent price but I've never run into one live.

Re: Collings Vs. Northfield Vs. Kelley

The NF5S has a mighty chop, volume, and a fundamental tone that cuts through well in ensemble playing. I think they shine in bluegrass settings but have the versatility to take on other styles as...

Re: Build in pick up/mic for Big Cittern

I haven't found a pickup that isn't a compromise in sound. And the main reason to make that compromise is because you need to play big/loud stages with a loud band!

Might want to take a look at...
  4. Re: Thoughts on latest version Eastman MD915 blonde?

It looks nice and sounds good.

At $2600 you're bumping into some pretty tough competition. Used, you could save money and get a Northfield NF5S or a Collings MT. Even if it HAS to be F style and...
  5. Re: Learning octave mandolin before regular mandolin

I don't think it matters but I see the two instruments as having different applications.

Of course skills will crossover as they are often tuned the same and both are fretted, picked...

Mike Marshall is a really good teacher. If you're able to send in videos he will really focus on whatever you need. As long as you send in videos it's the best of both worlds. A huge online...

    Re: Collings, Northfield, Girouard

I'm no expert on differentiating Collings mandos from each other but it seems like that MF5 with Waverlys, a James, and pickguard is pretty discounted as is the MT2 with a Collings case for 4k.

    Re: Collings, Northfield, Girouard

The simplest answer: When faced with the exact same question this winter, I chose a Girouard Concert A5 and I'm very happy with it.

Longer answer: All three are great quality mandolins. We're...
  10. Re: looker! natural blonde Collings MT-2 Mandolin Fully Torrefied

I think it's really beautiful too. I'm wondering how much lighting, camera, etc go into this one. I looks different from any Collings blond that I've seen. Maybe the torrification darkens the...

    Re: 1.1/8 vs 1.3/16

I play guitar, mandola, octave mandolin and bouzouki. Nut width doesn't seem to make much difference with these instruments.

With mandolin my left thumb gets tired playing a 1 3/16th or wider...

Re: post a video of yourself

Sounds great Frank! That MT2 has some nice sparkle but sounds good when you dig in too. Seems versatile and looks great. A good partner for your Pava. Can those two end MAS? Always the question...
  15. Re: Case and Tone Gard Combo for Pava (A Style)

I can't say for certain that a Pava would fit but the Crossrock case is very similar to the Superior but has more room. I can say it fits a Northfield F5S, a Girouard A5, and a Collings MT2-0 all...

Hard to beat that Flatiron if you don't mind some honest wear.

Re: Hands on with a Zeta acoustic mandolin

Thanks for all info. Mandolin looks nice and I think the electronics really set it apart.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the wonderful mandolins you mentioned.

    Here's a Model M with sunburst that isn't listed or priced as a +

Northfield Model M vs Model M+

Love all the stuff coming out of the NF shop.

Model M+ seems to be a recent addition. So what actually makes it a +?

Tuners hardware is black. Are they different tuners?

    Re: Mandolin 'dogs'?

There's always a variance isn't there? I don't think any of the reputable makers produce bad mandos but some are special and others, not so much.

Sometimes you see a mandolin that has two or...
