    Re: Pandemic Reading

    (No mandolin content)
Iíve just bought How I Escaped My Certain Fate by Stuart Lee (who claims to be Scottish)
Then I see this vid on the world wide web and realise how rude he is! PC - not.

Thanks Ranald , nice to see and hear them having fun.
  4. Re: Songs/tunes that drive our partners (and families) crazy!

Yeh, I get that if I play a tune and then happily play it again in harmonic minor.

    Re: Help Transcribing a Piece

It’s in A aoelian ie. starts in Am using the key of C major.

You can learn the C major 1st finger scale from C on by 2nd string third fret up to c on 1st string 8fret. Then do an impro on the...
  7. Re: Songs/tunes that drive our partners (and families) crazy!

    Here are some rules.

For my family it’s any song with words where there’s an obvious logical fallacy! :))
-you can sometimes get away with it but you have to laugh while singing. Apart from that,...

    Re: Octave mandolin less-expensive choices

That’s a nice looking octave, I think I’d be tempted to keep it and try different strings, retune, and then always play with a capo at second fret.

Whatever. The great thing about an octave is...

    Re: octave on valium?

Iíd love to own a Weber octave!

At the same time, at present, I have an Ashbury 20.5 inch scale length type 32E, I play it mando style and my dream would be an 18 inch (or less) scale Weber octave...

    Re: MuseScore software

TheSession.org is great and ‘limited’ many to trad tunes- I like that.

I find it’s often better to search for people rather than lists of tunes- especially true for lists of songs which are based...

Re: Tips for moving up the neck needed

Many exercises, one is to think of the seventh fret as the open position, just shifted down one string.

Also learn fast accurate first finger slides, that’ll at least get you to the right position...

  21. Re: Definition of a good mandolin playerís spouse

Mike, youíre asking about a good mandolin playerís wife.
But what if you occasionally play the mandolin badly?

An occasionally bad playing mandolinistís wife is going to be like what?
  22. Re: Holding an octave mandolin like a classical guitar

I find that as the instrument goes more horizontal, right hand picking improves along with coordination between the right hand and left-hand.
