    Re: Backing track for Bass??

eBass mandolin tuned in fifths and someone who can play alternating bass double stops and arpeggios?

I found the learning curve as a mandolinist really easy, you can ‘play’ bass in a couple of...

    Re: Transcription to tabs

You could try Musescore.com I'm sure someone has already posted this tune.
You then just export it as a mandolin tab.

You have to REALLY be careful though because at the moment MuseScore are...

    Re: Sierra on Fretboard Journal

Lovely, always a pleasure to see and hear her playing.
Many people have said that she makes it look easy, well I wonder with this tune, maybe it is easy?

Re: I知 afraid woodshedding has made me worse

I can’t play mandolin in front of the TV.
I start improvising the theme tunes, changing tragic minors to care-free relative majors, generally messing up the whole feeling of the film.

    A brisk,...

    Re: RIP Hans Sper junior

Well this really is a small world, I believe I met Hans a long, long time ago.
    1965?
I was in a school bus that he crashed. Kaput. And it was ok because we were very close to our destination....

    Re: Ouch! Mandolintab.net is unauthorised?

Another thing I love about mandolintab.net is that the PDFs are really clear and precise, and you don稚 spend time with individual small details.
It痴 basic, you just paste the .abc and get the...

Thanks Mike, I wondered whether the banner ad had anything to do with it. Maybe they need funding. I don’t know.

    Ouch! Mandolintab.net is unauthorised?

Just got a strange result: ‘Unauthorised’, and being the freedom-loving soul that I am, it always raises red flags. :))

Checked using different platforms. All on Safari IOS, cleared out cookies,...

    Re: The Banks Hornpipe佑olin Botts

    Thanks, interesting tune.
It seems to be one of those competition tunes that fiddlers use to determine their level, just as Arkansas Traveller means intermediate mandolinist.

    Thanks JimG:...

    Great rhythm on this one.
Here’s a nice memorable tune for a not-so-nice memorable time in our history.

Re: I知 afraid woodshedding has made me worse

I’m not sure what the OP understands by the term ‘woodshedding’.
I thought it meant something reclusive, structured and focussed?

Re: When a mandolin tunes itself

Do you notice this more in the winter, or with longer journeys?

Re: When a mandolin tunes itself

If the accordion is very wet-tuned then I guess that could make your mandolin appear to be in tune, at least with the others.
  22. Re: Best way to learn to play Smooth and Clean (not sloppy)?

    Lots of good advice above.
If you can stand this, try setting your metronome so that you hear two or even four clicks or drumbeats for every time you have to play a very slow eighth note in a scale....
  23. Re: Embarassing Question - Which Mandolin to Bring to Jam?

  24. Re: Embarassing Question - Which Mandolin to Bring to Jam?

I’d like to say take the expensive one but two things:
You don’t know how wild a new session (for you) is going to get.
Is it in a bar, a park, a metro station? :)

    And with the cheap one,...

    Re: Mandolin open tunings

A cheap instrument tuned GDGD can actually sound great.
Try FCFC too, it can bring out some extra tone.
These tunings (almost-fifths) can help with the transition to standard tuning, fiddle or...
