    Re: Update on CITES

They talk about a "musical instrument certificate," aka a MIC. (Not sure what the procedure would be to get one.) An orchestra, for example, can get a single MIC to cover all the players' gear. As...

    Update on CITES

At a two-week meeting in Panama earlier this month, a group of nations hammered out an agreement on traveling with instruments that contain banned substances.

    Basically, if you are crossing...
  3. Re: Does anyone have experience or advice about finger rehabilita

Lots of good advice above. FWIW, hand therapists are almost always OTs (occupational therapists) instead of PTs. Don't overlook a great one because of the initials behind their names.

    Re: Modern Oval Holes

Pava! I have one of her A-ovals that is fantastic. Several players far better than me have raved about it. Intonation is spot-on and it plays like butter.

Re: Lyon & Healy long scale Style B

I have a Style B with a serial number in the 200s. It has the "patent applied for" on both the tailpiece and pick guard. I'm guessing it's from 1918. Mine also has the ivory/ivoroid plate on the heel...

Re: Lyon & Healy long scale Style B

They have it listed as circa 1919, but with the low serial number I'd think it would have to be 1917.

Weighs in at 27 pounds, empty. Try humping that thing from the corner of the far parking lot into a gig.

    Re: Changing tuners

Charlie, I had a set of Rubners put on one of my mandolins a few months ago, I believe replacing Grovers. The Rubners are countersunk into the headstock, so a slight modification there. Also, being a...

Re: Where to donate a couple old mandos?

You are in New Mexico? There's a charter school in Santa Fe that has a high school string band, Academy for Technology and the Classics, that might be able to make good use of them. Another place,...

    Re: Caterina Lichtenberg's Artistwork's Course

GMorgan, the class could be worth it. She spends a lot of time on pick angle. Do you have someone who could make sure you have your pick at the same angle? It wouldn't take too much time, but having...

    Re: Caterina Lichtenberg's Artistwork's Course

    I went back and looked!

She does indeed teach reading. (As an accomplished reader, I skipped over most of it.) The reading exercises are simple, naturally, likely designed for a person who is...

Are you the only guy on Planet Earth who has three mandobasses? (Mandobassi?) There should be some sort of award for that.
