My micrometer was acting up! My tortoise pick is actually 0.072"/1.83mm thick but my Jim Dunlop thickness is good.
I've had a tortoise pick that I got in a trade a few years ago just seems to feel better than any other pick I've used on mandolins. I know I'll lose it one day... actually misplaced it for ~6 months...
I'm playing my F9 - Dec. 19, 2017 David Harvey signed Mando purchased new from TMS in the summer of 2018. I trusted people like you on this forum and the honesty of the folks (Dennis and Bryan) at...
Need to do a little work around the string holes? ... as in a bridge plate cap; core out the old holes, glue plugs and re-drill; or some other technique?
Can I get some expert eyes on this picture and tell me if you think it is original and the overall health of same ?
Thanks

it looks like yours has more gloss to it than mine. Was yours buffed out ? Mine is the old Sitka as well, but Rick B. at Weber says they put a less lacquer on these ones and so they...
Glad to hear that you are so jazzed on yours. I hope to be picking my distressed Yellowstone up from the music store that I have on layaway very soon. Pix to follow
Can someone decipher this serial number: 8331202 ?
I am guessing that it was born on March 3, 2008? What are the other numbers ?
I didn't have my first cup of Joe when I posted TWICE this morning. I am now recalling a quick after concert conversation that I had with Grisman after his show in Lawrence, KS at Liberty Hall in...
My earlier post got me thinking/wondering who actually would have been playing with Grisman in the summer of 1980. Tony Rice, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger and Rob Wasserman line up might be incorrect -...
I'll be there with my 2- and 5-year old, wife and in-laws. I would go even if it weren't free. I will never forget my first exposure to the mandolin: a free concert-in-the-park in Kansas City back in...
I was hoping to resurrect this thread with a question: If you increase/decrease the arch from the standard F5 specs do you need to adjust anything else ? I am referring to the interior volume, which...
I just found some old photos of the one that I sold on eBay about 6 weeks ago to help finance my MAS which, is not out of control and I can stop any time I want.
Mine was serial number 11740. I...
...hmmmmm that one looks and sounds vaguely familiar. Was that an eBay sale about 6 weeks ago ?

The Loars's were built using Red Spruce tops. Were the other Gibson's of the day also similarly constructed ?
More specifically, I am curious about my 1917 F2: Red Spruce top ?
Rick,
We talked about a week ago and following that discussion, as you may remember, I put money down on a distressed custom Yellowstone F with some of your nice old Sitka stock on it. I was...
Looks to be an F9 on eBay right now....
That looks like a distressless (a new word) version of the one they built for Rhonda Vincent. But I think hers has "The Weber" script, the Flowerpot inlay and her F-holes are not bound ... but that...
Mountain Music Shoppe in Shawnee. They don't have any pix because their web site is pretty simple. Fazio's in St. Louis has a similar one listed and there are pix.

I learned quite a bit about the old stash. After talking to Rick at Weber and Bruce Graybill. I just put 25% down on a Custom Yellowstone F that was born this month.
That mando rocks so much !!...
I'm with you ToneMonster. I absolutely love that color and everything else... except the distressed look. But I'm the same old codger that thinks that acid-washed jeans are just stupid: pay more to...
