    Re: string dampeners?

And to be even fogey-er, I believe that what the devices are attempting to stop is the sympathetic vibration of strings above the nut/below the bridge, rather than harmonics or overtones.

Re: Silk Mando Bag Used Inside the Case

My violin case didn't come with a bag, but it does have a blanket, silk on one side and plush on the other. And the case has a cover. Go figure.

    Re: Humidity gauge

I've been using a ThermaPro temp/humidity gauge for several years and have been pretty pleased with it. It tends to stay within +/- 5% points or so as compared to a sling psychrometer.

    Re: Caseadillo Case covers introduction

The covers look pretty nice from the outside. Would appreciate some interior pics as well.

I only have a cover for one of my cases, although these days I don't travel with an instrument much...

Re: I miss the Classified Guitar posts....

Yeah, I agree, although for me, it's also the steel string guitar. That's my primary instrument.
  6. Re: Stroboclip Tuner TL;DR Tale told by an idiot*, Part 765:

I the event of an EMP, and/or "the big one," I too have a 440 tuning fork. And a log log duplex slide rule. Unless & until then, I like the convenience of electronic tuners. 😹
  7. Re: Stroboclip Tuner TL;DR Tale told by an idiot*, Part 765:

Wow, sounds like some QC, or possibly "open box" issues?

I have a bunch of different tuners, clip-on, standalone and software (Android & MSW). I like the Stroboclip for its multiple modes,...

Re: Finally, a Lyon & Healy Set

That is really spectacular! Congratulations on assembling the quartet. I would love to be able to see (and maybe play?) them in person.

Re: A Bad Day at the Bandsaw

At a quick glance, it seems like just an odd camera angle or shadow. But then you look at it, and... Yowza.

    Re: Arthritis

Osteoarthritis here. Ibuprofen helps, but I don't like the potential effects on the liver. My doc recommended Voltaren, but it's toxic to cats, and I have 4, plus work at a cat shelter, so that's a...
  11. Re: Violinists: What are the mellow/smooth violin strings? (Nmc)

Look for synthetic core strings, or gut. Dominants are sort of a standard for violin (as opposed to fiddle), & some folks really like them. I prefer Pirastro, but as usual, it's a personal choice.

    Re: Action!

It's a little tough to tell with the angle of the photos, but it seems a bit high to me, and as noted above, it looks like the bridge is adjusted as low as it goes.

    If the instrument is otherwise...

Re: Who makes a wound A string?

I also like the flat tops with the wound A string for my Weber Vintage F. They just sound the best on that mando. I am down to my last set of them; once they go on, I will need to look for something...

Re: Monel Strings with a wrap?

Two thoughts: Could you just ask the person you bought it from? Unless his/her ownership was so brief that the strings weren't replaced. Or the person your seller bought it from?

    Second, comparing...
