    Re: Ebay: Kalamazoo mandolin

Those WWII pin-up girls were plenty tacky. About as tacky as the times would allow. Considering they were supposed to remind you of your girl back home, nobody's girl back home ever wore outfits like...

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please

Ever notice that mandolins changed from bowl backs to more Violin-like instruments, after Orville Gibson's creations!

Here is some food for thought......
  4. Re: 1935 Gibson A-75 (listed in MC classifieds)

Oh thank goodness. I thought it was my Old-Timers disease catching up with me again.

Laura, Are the back and sides maple or mahogany on your A-75? Thanks, M

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please

Thanks Eric, Good stuff. So, the 1935 A-50's all have tone bars, and are preferable.

Also, do the 2009 A-9's have V-shaped necks?

Now, I want a Stradolin with a V-shaped neck. Wonder if...

So Olaf, on Gibson's tone bars are preferable?
  8. Re: 1935 Gibson A-75 (listed in MC classifieds)

Nice! Get a picture of the elevated fretboard. It's good to have.
I agree with John about the tuners. Fortunately, my set-up guy (Randy Marsh, Venice, Fl.) gets old tuners working every time...

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please

Looks like your David Harvey "tuned" A-50 is gone. I should have pulled the trigger but at the top A-50 price range of $2,500... Who am I kidding, I'm a Stradolin kind of guy. For me it will be just...

  12. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

CONDITION: Very Good (Used)... Kids, don't do drugs.
  13. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Well of course there is light under the fingerboard... that there is the rare elevated fretboard option he's charging so much for :disbelief:

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please

Would it not be a lot less work and cheaper to buy a 1996 A-5G (one sold on feeBay Oct. 20,2021 for $1,900)? The 80's and 90's A-5G's have opened up and are getting rave reviews (though I have never...
  15. Re: 1935 Gibson A-75 (listed in MC classifieds)

Collectors will say it's not original and not worth as much... which is their problem, because Randy Wood may have done a better job than Gibson. Most of us have seen factory work that is not period...

  19. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

There is a Vega Model 20 Cylinder Back Mandolin in the Mandolin Cafe classifieds selling for $1,500 that looks quite similar.

  20. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

They are not good at replying to inquires either (it's been 24 hours, almost). Maybe they don't work on Fridays. :(
So I did what any red blooded American would do ...I put in a bid.

    I've never...
  21. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

I just messaged them to see what the label says and If there was a case. Will post it here if they message me back.

  25. Re: 1930's Gibson AOO Mandolin, somewhat easy fix

I have always been told, "It's cheaper to buy an item that has been restored than to fix it." However, If you can fix it yourself, sometimes you can do very well ...and sometimes not. It's a gamble...
