A tenor harp is really either a tenor banjo with a wooden soundboard or a tenor guitar with a banjo-shaped body.
He also wants it to be a Cousenon, not a Couesnon. :)
You may look into contacting various archives around the country who might be interested in obtaining it and you could negotiate them scanning your contribution and making those files available for...
Graham: who is building that mandolin?
My first Gibson was a 1919 A-3 whiteface. It was the best sounding A-model on Mandolin Brothers’ wall. Excellent sounding. Best of luck in restoring it and I hope you will play it as well. So cool...
That looks pretty nifty but would it work just as well to slip foam under the strings near the bridge?
It could be a genuine non-DeMeglio Since it definitively has traits. On the other hand it also has some non-traits that could easily lead us to a genuine non-Larson. :)
I guess it sort of would look like this:

Very nice but I do think you mean James Bryan.
Do we know that this is not a DeMeglio? In any case it has the patent stamp so possibly design was licensed by DeMeglio. It has the behind bridge tensioner and the slotted side vents, same headstock...
My favorite strings for vintage bowlbacks are Dogal Calace roundwound RW92 and 92b. I believe they are carbon steel.
that is pretty thin for a mandolin top. And if they need to add epoxy then why not use plastic for the pickguard? There must be some use. I wonder if they can process thicker pieces.
Something like this might work: https://www.stringsbymail.com/rosette-tremolo-mute-practice-tool-5806.html

or just get some scrap high density foam. I bet the big box stores have it for...
I think with a session like the one you pictured the best you can hope for is a mandolin that allows you to hear your self, no matter how much you spend. The National mentioned above certainly is...
I think most violin mutes clip over the top of the bridge and a violin mute is much thinner than the top of a mandolin bridge. Too bad about that. There is a heavy violin mute Made of metal that...
I think the idea is that you use the D'Addario mandola set but still keep it in GDAE octave tuning.
I think the heavier strings will drive the top better for tone and volume and the shorter scale...
In classical music written in 6/8 DUDUDU makes sense usually. For jigs in Irish music, see above posts for proper accents.
And have him check out and join CMSA for listings, resources, etc. I know that some of the other orchestras including the ones mentioned above would be willing to share music. CMSA also lists the...
I know you probably realize that you can't possibly practice in absolute silence. Maybe just play only the rests? :)
On violins you add mass to the bridge and you can try doing that to your...
I personally don’t like Thomastiks on my Gibson A but do use them on my Lyon & Healy. I am a fan of NB mediums on all my other carved mandolins. Prior to that I liked Gibson Sam Bush Monels (Now...
German style bowlback on vitamin therapy! :) I agree: looks like fine workmanship. It is good it comes with a case. Good luck to find a case that fits otherwise.

My borrowed OM is finally ready at the luthier’s. It was not really playable but it is a good one. Too bad I missed Matt’s first class—I took an in-person class with him in NYC a few years ago. I...
I think that is an early Washburn style 80 but there Is a fluted style 85 beyond that glitz. I think I have a tailpiece like that somewhere. Mick, did you really buy it?
