Re: Three string chords - good and bad?

Caleb Klauder says he does this a lot. Rarely plays chop chords or even chop rhythm for backup. Of course, I don't think many folks would say that Caleb is a bluegrasser - more like "old timey".

Re: Waverly's on an Older Red Diamond A

I should think Stew-Mac could tell you what the base metal is. I doubt that it is gold (or even gold-ish). I have no thoughts on OCD though.

Re: Minimal Music with Mandolin and ...

You need to fire your stick player (stickist?). He was having entirely too much fun.:))

I do like the composition (and the presentation).
  6. Re: Old Time Mandolin Workshop with Caleb Klauder

I thought that a recording was being made and would be available to attendees. But I can't find if it was. When we got to the tunes at the end of the session I was kind of saturated and would really...

Re: Are travel mandolins worth it?

I was tempted with a Martin Backpacker a couple of years ago. I thought I needed it. Then I played it and, well, blah. And after I held it in my hands I realized that it was not going to make travel...
  9. Re: Floating Top Guitar, very interesting.

One thing I wonder about but I might be completely off base: At the end of the video he is playing and it looks like he is plugged in. I don't know how to judge sound that has been processed through...

    Re: NVNVNVNV - reasons?

Today is pi-day. So shouldn't that be PiVPiVPiVPiVPiVPiV ? Or ΠVΠVΠVΠVΠV ?

    Pardon the irrational thought.

I'm a Weber magnet. Don't let me play yours because it might stick too.

    Re: Cases and covers

No, no, no, no -- the case cover is soft and easily torn. Don't cover it with something equally soft and fragile. You need something hard and durable. Thus you need a case cover case. (which might...

    Re: Help on TableEdit files

I assume you are downloading Bluegrass Special from the Mandolin Cafe tabledit files folder. I downloaded both versions to my Windows PC and they opened fine. So at least I can say that the files...

I liked watching them all but I really enjoyed watching the first two. Fascinating. And of course the audio is wonderful.

    Is this really Caleb Klauder?

Every time I see a LaBella ad, I wonder the same thing. Maybe somebody here can give a definitive answer.

    nfi, of course.

    Re: Strap for Weber Gallatin

Here is what I do. The photo is not a Gallatin but the construction is very similar - elevated fretboard being the most important similarity. Pickguard or not doesn't matter.

Re: Do You Have Too Many Instruments?

Well, I know that whenever I succeed in kicking one out, it leaves a vacuum. A powerful vacuum. But as we all know, nature abhors a vacuum, and my cave is a perfect laboratory in which to observe...

Re: Average Cost to Ship Mandolin in CONUS?

Good stuff in this thread. I'll just add my observation that shipping cost for a mandolin is almost always dependent on the size of the box, not the weight. Thus if you find an old dreadnaught guitar...

Re: Tune from The Mandolin Store Site

That video proves the old adage that even a flyaway pinkie can be trained to go where it is needed when it is needed. And if it's not an old adage, maybe it ought to be.

    Unfortunately my pinkie...
  25. Re: Where did the tab edit files on Mandozine go?
