Welcome to the Cafe! As for me, I'd say, like journeybear, the mandolin chose me. When I was about 9 years old my parents took me to a number of bluegrass festivals where I got to see young Chris...
Holy cow that's a lot of Am. Do you mean the tremolo part? It vaguely sounds like a mandolin but it also kind of sounds like someone is tremoloing a piano string. I'd be happy to transcribe that for...
It likely isn't due to linear expansion from body heat, as if you tuned it right when you picked it up, the strings would likely expand a miniscule amount, then when you put it back in your case they...
(Not Denver but...) Shout out to the Telluride Music Company, Hart's Music in GJ (largest selection of Martin guitars I've ever seen), and Wildwood Guitars in Louisville (suburb of Denver.)
In my opinion, these laminated instruments are pretty much all the same and not generally worth it. I'd suggest going for a used Kentucky KM-150 or a RM-50, both very highly regarded instruments....
Bernie,
Yes! Most "vlogging" or mid-level DSLRs do have a rotating LCD screen. But even if they don't (my cameras don't) you can easily connect your phone to most Canon (and likely soon Nikon)...
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents real quick. I'm a professional photographer and videographer, by trade. For any beginners looking for a good/decent video set-up but don't want to get into the...
Ya know, personally, I think a 4-string is better for electrics. The double courses are there for added volume and electrics usually don't need that attribute . I'm a fan of the 4-strings for...
Most of the Webers that I've ever played (including my yellowstone-like Buffalo) have skinny V-necks. IMHO, I think it makes it much easier to play.
Hi there! That's definitely a regular ol' mandolin. You should tune it as a mandolin with your tuning app. The black thing that I think you're referring to is a pickguard. And as for the numbers next...
Hey!
I'm living in Durango for a few more weeks (until I graduate). We have a lot of infrequent jams over here along with a couple regular ones (Irish jam at the Irish pub!). I've never been to...
That's one ugly duckling.
Huh. I must've had a nice 815.
I've owned an Eastman 815 and I currently own a Weber Buffalo (Yellowstone-like). Every Weber I've ever played has a similar tone which I tend to love with a lot of lows and a good balance. The...
The woods used in these instruments are not treated correctly and, therefore, they generally end up as firewood within a couple months of purchase. Beware! I'd suggest an Eastman/Ovation mandocello...
You could probably rent a bathroom in Mountain Village for $500 a night. Worth a shot. ;)
No. You should pay the original shipping price and the agreed price for the instrument. That's very backhanded of the seller. For shame.
It's crazy there... People turn into animals looking for camping spots. Festival Nazis is what we call them here.
Is it a flat top or arch top? Either way, you'll probably have to fit it to the top. Which involves laying sandpaper on the top and gently rubbing the bridge against it.
Minor finish checking will have no effect on the tone of an instrument. Just one's pride. ;)
Hey Scott, could you change mine to Theo W.? I can't remember why I put it to B. Thanks a lot. This is my favorite site!
I've played lots of quieter Eastmans. But they all had a very sweet soft sound. They're really nice for classical with nickel/monel strings.
I think it has to do with the recording/processing method. It never bothered me much though. That's a great DVD.
