    Re: Picks for arthritis

I suffer the same fate as the OP. After reading this thread, I pulled out my V Pick Saga. I’ve never been real keen on the sound, but it sounds OK. It also reduced the thumb joint pain. I also rub...

Re: Praise for the Kentucky KM-150

Guess I’ll revive this thread. I bought a km 150 from Guitar Center ( open box great price) after an aborted attempt at getting a Washburn m1S which I returned. Bought as a travel/jam/beater. ...

Re: Best Place to Shop For Mandolins

This may seem a little harsh although I don’t mean it to be. You’ve gotten excellent advice so far. Your original post was nearly 7 weeks ago and you have yet to acquire a mandolin. Time to fish...

    Re: Kentucky head stock inlay

That's an older model 500. The inlay is the "Art Deco" inlay used at the time. I had one several years ago. Played it a lot - I really enjoyed the playability and sound on mine. Good luck!

    Set up curiosity

Here's a question for you who are more proficient than I am. I have a few mandolins. Radius fret boards, flat boards big frets, small frets-you get the idea.... All are well set up but with the...
  8. Re: Repaired headstock scroll devaluation on MD315

I have a different opinion on this. Yes, it is too bad when an illness or injury (in this case a stroke) prevents one from playing their music instrument. But, I believe you over paid for a...

    Re: Solid Body Mandolins

I have an Eastwood Mandocaster that I purchased and use for exactly the reasons that you (the OP) has listed. I also have a Vox headphone amp that I can plug in and with the headphones or ear buds I...

Re: Buying an instrument you have never played

After 10+ mandolins I've bought, I only played 3 prior to purchase. My best one so far I bought sight unseen. YMMV, but that's my experience .

    Good luck!

Re: Eastman md 304 vs 314

Here's my 2¢. I've had the following: Eastman 504,604; Morris Flat Top, A4; Kentucky KM272, Big Muddy MW0, M2; Low end Washburn. Those are also the only oval/round hole mandolins I've played other...
  13. Re: I can’t remember if learning guitar was this hard

I'm glad you posted this. I'm pretty much in the same boat. I read the OP and thought-I can't do a lot of that stuff and I've been at this a long time (14 years). Maybe I took the wrong approach...

    Re: Washburn mandolins

I have an oval hole, solid spruce top (pressed) with laminated maple back and sides. Strung with GHS Med/Light strings. I bought it for $210 about 6 months ago. It is about 10 years old by my...

    Re: Favorite mandolin playing beverage?

Manny's Yum. Can't get it here in Bend though. So for me it's either an Athletic Brewing (non-alcohol) craft brew, a Dr Pepper or a Jack Daniels on the rocks
  16. Re: Who Has a Northfield F5-S with Airloom case?

I must be in my old age mentally incompetent. First and foremost, I've owned a bunch of musical instruments. I can't remember any that came with a case where it was a loose fit. Shoot even my...
  17. Re: Who Has a Northfield F5-S with Airloom case?

    David,

I'm no expert on any of this. I'm thinking they could have shipped the incorrect case, but never even seeing a Northfield what do I know. I have never been able to turn the bridge thumb...

Re: Jam Etiquette re: Playing Mandolin Chords

I don't think it matters. Several teachers I've had were very direct about chopping only and on being very accurate on playing the correct chords at the correct time and timing of the chops. So, ...

    Re: Mandolin Rental

This is not necessarily answering the OP's question, but you say "I'm wanting my son to try the mandolin....." So, he's 9 years old. Is it he who is interested in the mandolin or is it you who...
  22. Re: Best Mandolin for Traveling From Sea Level to High Desert?

Well...........I'm going the other direction - actually to a tropical destination and I'm taking the Mandocaster with my headphone amp. Don't think the solid wood Mando's would fair too well. Also...

    NMD-Eastwood Mandocaster Ltd

I opted for the metallic green mandocaster. Now, the only other electric instrument I have (ever played) is a cheap lap steel I bought when I was waiting for my first dobro to be built. Can't play...
