    Re: Surprising mando songs?

Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent works really well on mandolin. I tend to play it on my Banjo Mandolin:cool:

    Re: 1942 Levin Mandolin Banjo

Andy Banjo used to sell string sets for Mandolin Banjo, which I used on my GH&S, but I believe they have ceased trading:( Clifford Essex also list a set for Mandolin Banjo.

Re: Al Capone played mandola- really!

Makes sense that he would try mandola if he had been playing tenor banjo. Same tuning:cool:

Re: gartini de lugini 1906 flatback

I found this thread in August, when I was looking at another instrument on eBay. 12-string version.

Re: gartini de lugini 1906 flatback

Does look like it. It seems likely to me, that with an instrument of this age, the bridge may well have been replaced. Could be that somebody reused a bridge from a 12-string (Mandriola). There has...

Re: gartini de lugini 1906 flatback

Just picked up a mandolin from eBay as a restoration project. No label, or other identification, but appears to be the same model. Another Gartini de Lugini?

    Re: Antique "Banjolin"?

It is not a John Grey & Sons, it is a George Houghton & Sons, also known as GH&S:)
  8. Re: Simon Mayor's Tune for a Mop Fair played on octave mandolin

Great stuff, very fine sounding instrument. I'm a big Simon Mayor fan and recorded this on My Mandocello a few years back :-)

    Re: Renforth K-9 Mandocello.

Thanks for the comments. This started off as a Melody, model no. F01 E2 an extremely cheap Chinese electro-acoustic guitar. It has a plastic bowl back and a bolt on neck. Scale length is 24.75...

Re: Best Use of Mandolin in Rock

With respect to Rod Stewart not properly crediting Ray Jackson's playing on "Maggie May", to add insult to injury, most people in Britain believe the mandolin was played by the late DJ John Peel;...

    Renforth K-9 Mandocello.

I've already posted elsewhere on the forum, but this is the mandocello I made by converting a cheap archtop guitar.

I've already posted this elsewhere, but if anyone hasn't seen, it this is me playing "Tune For a Mop Fair" by Simon Mayor on my mandocello.

  16. Re: Hello CBOM! I have a few questions about mandocellos on a bu

Quite a few Mandocellos use ordinary mandolin tailpieces, they will certainly accomodate D'addario J78 strings without any problem. Not sure if I would recommend a swap though.
