    Re: Sacramento Area Bluegrass Jams?

I moved from Sac about 5 years ago. There was a weekly slow jam that was advertised on the CBA website. There was also a Music Store (I forget the name), in Folsom that was becoming the premium...
  4. Re: Anyone playing bluegrass near Fayetteville, NC?

It might be that the Maness Pottery jam has closed, but it has morphed into a Monday night jam at Hugger Mugger Brewery in Sanford.
  5. Re: Anyone playing bluegrass near Fayetteville, NC?

I’m in Aberdeen. I don’t go to any jams but I probably should so I might be interested. Maness Pottery near Carthage has a regular (and huge) jam and concert every Tuesday at 6:00....

    Re: Ghosted

I’m afraid I did the ghosting one time here by accident! I responded to an ad here on the cafe, but I had changed email addresses a while ago but neglected to update my new email on the cafe. So I...

Re: Storage shed find-and it needs love.

My friend who was given the mandolin thinks the repairs are too expensive, so he is checking with the previous owner to see if she would be willing to pass it on to me. If so, I’ll probably go ahead...

Storage shed find-and it needs love.

A friend was looking for a mandolin for his grandson and was given this mandolin that has spent most of its life in a storage shed. It has a horribly repaired top crack, the back is separating, and...
  15. Luthier somewhere close to Pinehurst NC?

I need a set up on my Northfield Big Mon, but the luthier I’ve been using, who is great, hasn’t been answering my calls or emails. Can anyone recommend a luthier somewhat close to Pinehurst, such as...
  16. Re: Playing Mandolin with the Church Praise Team

I’m glad your first experience was good! I play mandolin in my church band. We play all contemporary praise songs and we have drums, bass, electric guitars, acoustic and piano. My take is that all...

Re: CMC joint arthritis (no mandolin content)

Thanks for your replies. I think I’ll experiment with light gauge strings and check into chiropractic & acupuncture too. The dr in Bristol VA is about 4 hours from me, so I might try him if I can’t...

I am developing the same thumb problems- did any of you try switching from medium gauge strings to light, and did it ease any pressure on the thumb?

Re: Ellis Archive - We need your help!

I’ve got an Ellis A oval hole, #187-10. I think it was Mr. Ellis’ first oval and photographs of it are posted on his website. I’ll try to take some pictures myself.

Re: Recommended luthiers in Sacramento Ca area

The absolute best Luthier in the area is Michael Lewis, about 1/2 way between Auburn and Grass Valley off of 49, but he's beginning to slow down and ease into retirement. He is a world class luthier.
