Hi Oggy, I'm from Vänersborg and I play the mandolin, though I don't hang around at the cafe much anymore. Anyway, I play mostly oldtime and some bluegrass and country, currently playing a Gold Tone...
They asked 10 000 SEK, about 1000 USD. A bit much for a wall hanger, in my opinion.... I decided not to buy it, my Gold Tone has a much better tone and I can probably fix the tuning problem with new...
Obviously the head picture didn't show, but there is written something beginning with Antonio, and a T so it is probably Antonio Tsai. Thanks!
Hey there, I ran into a mandolin that at first sounded very good, but after some playing I thought it had a too weak and open sound, it makes noises when I play chops, and is sort of too thin, so...
Everyone who keeps the thumb off the neck, do you think you can play easily with your fourth finger? I've played a couple of years with the thumb pointing up on the peghead, off the neck, before I...
Do you think the best way is to first learn melodies .. or what? I also play the mandolin and I can play some Irish tunes without problems but I think the bouzouki is kinda "not as handy" as a melody...
Hi folks!
I got my bouzouki this summer and have played around some with it trying it with ballads, hymns and anything. Then I've mostly played fiddle, but now I'm ready for the real stuff. I have...
Why is everyone so mad over Trinity College bouzoukis? What's so special with them? When I read about one, it turned out it was made in Asia, and the last time I was involved in mandolin family...
Is there anyone out there who plays a bouzouki/mandola/whatever tuned ADAD??
How do you play these chords?
C (don't find one that sounds good if I don't use a capo)
B
Bflat
B minor
Is it...
That looks like a cittern, no zouk. Looks good though.
Anything medium. Not too soft, not too heavy. At the moment I use something I got from Strings and Beyond, with a little text "Elixir strings" on one side and "Strings and Beyond" on the other side.
I'm quite new on the bouzouki but have played mandolin for a long time. After trying GDAD I tuned the zouk to GCGC (as opposed to ADAD because I sing a lot in the key of C) and I'm trying to use Han...
That's interesting, I didn't know that. Talk about placebo effect...You believe the strings are different and also notice a difference in sound..
I ordered Sam's Monels from somewhere online, they came today and I've been picking for hours, these strings really have attitude and they make my mandolin sing!!! I'll never use anything else!!
Yes, it is quite easy. You have the left hand fingering "for free". The distances are a bit smaller on the fiddle though, but if you can play the mandolin you know what fingers to use to get those...
I agree with you. A bouzouki is a bouzouki and a mandola is a mandola (in Sweden they say it's just a mandola with longer neck), and they are close related. That's it.
Btw, I talked with my...
Here in Sweden it seems like most people know what a bouzouki is, and they know it's kinda Irish. One guy at the accordion festival we were at even thought we were Irish and started speaking English...
Ok, thanks. I think I maybe #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif get it now. I'll ask my husband how a mandola is tuned in Sweden.
What about a mandola? Does this term exist in English language or is it equal to the OM? I suppose the OM is what is bigger than the mandolin but a bit shorter neck than the bouzouki?
I just wonder, is there a difference between octave mandolin and bouzouki (on Tim O'Brien's homepage they call it both but on his tutor video they call it bouzouki) more than the length of the neck?...
You don't have to play that Monroe G grip, that goes from 2nd fret to the 7th. An Irish bluegrass mandolin picker showed me another one, E strings 3rd fret, A strings 2nd fret, D strings 5th fret...
It was nice with mandolin on that one!
What's the difference between Korg and Intellitouch?
I've always used D'Addario Skaggs set (but also tried the Grisman set, really liked it, but it's not so easy to find) or John Pearse but I'm open for new things so now I wonder what you use and which...
In the beginning with my F-style mandolin, the neck did go towards the floor but I've learned to hold it with my left hand so now that is not a problem anymore. If you say it does no harm to the...
