    Re: slippery pick fix

Go to Staples, or another such store, and buy Glue Dots. Stick one or more on your pick. They stick the pick to your finger and are easy to remove from the pick every time you want.

    Re: Dobro Mandolin

I have a Dobro mandolin and I find it compliments any style, old time, bluegrass, Celtic, you name it. It certainly does have a different sound and I like to use it especially when there are other...

    Re: starting fiddle

Keep the French fiddle, they are pretty nice.

Although you have the basics down regarding fingering, you are going to find that the position of the fiddle and the bow will make a difference you...

    Re: Fingerpicks

Try Alaska picks. They are the most like fingernails. I like the plastic ones over the metal ones. However, I can seldom use them because you have to have SOME fingernails in order to use them and...

Re: The next time you are asked to play for free....

    I heard something once:
you can play what you want all you want, but if you want to be successful, you play what the audience wants.

Re: PA system recommendations for contra dance duo

I was told by the fiddler in a popular Celtic group, that the Bose stick is the best investment. You put it behind you and the sound goes 180 degrees, PLUS, there is no need for monitors. The band...

Re: David Wilkie & Cowboy Celtic

Yew bet. Great CD! I have owned this CD for years. I like the Streets of Laredo. Well, actually I like the whole thing, but it gave me a way to play S of L in a new way, and sent me to find the...

    Mando sighting

Watching "Wings," the silent, 1927 Oscar winning movie about flying in WW I. I spotted a girl playing a bowl back within the first 15 minutes. No biggie, but I have never spotted one before.

    Re: String question

Mediums are fine. A lot of players prefer them (but I like lights, myself) for bluegrass.

    Re: Acoustic guitar pick up

Dean Markley makes a nice sound hole pick up at a reasonable price. You can leave the cord hanging out. For a little more, LR Baggs makes the Element soundhole pup. Kinda expensive is the Fishman...
  13. Re: Why did bluegrass come to dominate American string band music

I was at a bluegrass jam on Saturday and of the first 8 "bluegrass" fiddle tunes played, 6 were Irish. Then two hours later, it ended with "Wagon Wheel."

    Re: ibenez mandolins

There is a website all about Ibanez mandolins and it could answer some of your questions.

I have owned a 524 for a long time, almost 30 years I think, and I was interviewed for the website. Mine...

    Re: Snark tuners damaging finish

It is logical that any clip on tuner can damage a nitro finish if you leave it on a long time. There is some solvent involved in their manufacture.

Bear in mind, however, that nitro cellulose...
