Thaks, Mark, I’ll look into it.
I’m mostly tryin’ to learn to refret the tunes I already knew, and, at my age, change doesn’t come easy, but I like the positions. I wanted to move up the neck. I’ll get it, but it’ll be a while.
...
Wow! Thanks, to All. You’ve been very helpful. I just wanted to get ‘er done correctly, and I was very tired of first position.
Thanks, Mark, that’ll do me for now, and that’s what I’ve been doin’. I just didn’t know if it was the correct way.
And thanks all for your answers.
When playing in position, what’s the best way to play a note such, as a pick-up note, that’s out of the position?
I’ve bought some lighter, D’Addario strings and some 2 mm picks. I bought the picks because I already have a Dunlop Delrin 500 2 mm and like it pretty well. I don’t usually use that heavy a pick,...
Yeah, McIrish, I like the Prime Tones a lot too - rounded and triangle.
Well, so far the tight, tight strings have loosened up, and the frettin’ has become easier. I’ve picked my pick; it’s a Dunlop Prime Tone Sculpted 1.3 small triangle. Picks well, and it’s tremolo is...
Yeah, I got one a while back, but I haven’t used it much. So many picks - so little time.
Yeah, I have a coupla them too. They’re pretty good.
Got my new Mandola on Sunday - three days early! I played it a lot yesterday. The strings are very tight, and I thought they would be tough to play, but they played just fine. A Prime Tone round...
Well, yesterday I pulled the trigger on a new Gold Tone Mandola. I wanted a new mandolin that was different from what I already have, and one that I know how to play.
I like mandolins a lot, but...
Yeah, Dave, I agree. I have a lot of them too, but I still buy a few from time to time. They certainly interest me — so many sizes and shapes and colors. I’ve been thinkin’ about the Black Mountain...
That’s great, Lflingpicker, glad it worked out. Ya never know with mail order. 1.5 seems ta be a popular size.
Good to hear that, Mitch, it gives me hope. I have a round Wegen 100 that I like pretty well.
I wonder if anyone has just the one pick and picks with it every time. Probably a Blue Chip guy/gal.
Yeah, Lady, I couldn’t agree more. Yesterday I used a light pick that sounded pretty good, yet today I didn’t like it and chose another.. It’s maddening! I guess the pros hafta carry a mixed bunch...
Mitch, that sounds like good info. Maybe I’ll have to listen a bit closer. Thanks.
I think picks are sometimes maddening. One finally gets a pick that sounds just as he/she thinks it should, but the next time it’s played it sounds different, and the search starts again. Sometimes...
I have a really great looking D’Addorio round mandolin pick. It’s clear, red with white letters and nice and smooth. I guess I bought it for it’s looks, but it’s pretty mushy sounding — kinda...
Thanks, David, both of mine have round holes which I like best so far. However, I’m thinking of buying another mandolin, maybe an F type, but they seem kinda flimsy to me, and I don’t care for the...
Do type F mandolins generally sound the same as type A? I know, of course, there are many different sounding mandolins. but can one usually tell the difference between the two.
Yeah, I like ‘em a lot. My favorite (so far) is Prime Tone Round .3 or .5. I’ve been usin’ them for a long time. They’re great for tremolo, but, as I said before, they’re a bit noisy.
Yeah, Chuck, I have a cupla D’Andrea 385 Large Round Matte Shell picks coming in the mail. They’ll be here Saturday. I haven’t played any D’Andreas yet, but some have said they liked them.
Yeah, I haven’t tried the M150s. I’m using the M100s right now. They’re ok.
