  9. Re: 3 Schweizer Halszithern (Swiss cittern family instruments)

The Kriesner is the guitar-shaped one. Assuming you mean the one shown in the last picture (I think that's the Emmentaler*, mmm cheese), then yes. Wouldn't be my first choice either!

  10. 3 Schweizer Halszithern (Swiss cittern family instruments)

Some pictures I recently received which I thought you might like so am sharing with permission of the owner. A Kriesner Halszither (1922), a Toggenburger Halszither (date unknown) and a Emmentaler...

    Re: Atypical top wood?

My understanding is that Linden usually refers to European Limewood (not the fruit tree), but in the USA can also be used to refer to Basswood, which has much the same soft carvable properties as...

Paulownia is the traditional soundboard material for the Chinese gu zheng, so it certainly is a feasible soundboard wood for any other instrument.

    Alder ribs?

Anyone ever used alder for ribs? I was wondering how it bends. Seems like it should behave similarly to Cherry? I can only find electric instruments made from Alder online. I've used it once before,...

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Here's a mandolin (probably?) with a floating guitar bridge and a soundhole much further down the body than usual. Probably made as someone's project, and then the bridge got lost or other...
