    Re: Kala and Ibanez

From my point of view, a 21” scale is feels better for me with CGDA simply because the A is not so taught and not so prone to break but sound wise, I think the longer the scale the better!
    If you...

    Re: Kala and Ibanez

I am not really the right person to ask as I only play in 5ths on my tenors and strum on six strings but there are dozens of post on this forum featuring DGBE.
However you can custom make your...

    Re: Kala and Ibanez

I think they are both well made budget guitars, I like the look of the Ibanez and the Karla has many positive reviews.
The Karla in particular is a popular short scale tenor.

    Re: Kala and Ibanez

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I think it is fair to say that the majority of posters on here prefer slim necks and fifths tuning but there are also some who play in fourths so hopefully they will...

Re: Martin with extra sound hole!

Personally I could not live with it like it is so I would of had to attempt a replacement side.
I did think about it, perhaps I could find a vintage mahogany six string and and somehow use the wood...

Re: Martin with extra sound hole!

The last one I saw on EBay was a a very good one and went for £1300 but I have not seen one for sale in the last few years.

  12. Re: Slightly different string question -GDAE capoed

Have you tried working with one of the on line string tension calculators?
It is good fun once you learn how to make them work.

Re: The Blackbird on a Kmise tenor guitar

What scale length is the Kmise?
If it is 23” then those are very heavy garages for CGDA!

    Old Harmony

This is from a few years back, my friend Clem who is a skilled tenor banjo player, popped in to see me and picked up my old Harmony.
He had never played a tenor guitar before!...

Normally with a fixed bridge, the outside edge of the bridge plate will rest over the top of an X brace and in turn, slightly to the rear of the brace centre, so the force of the bridge is tilted...

    Re: HB Tenor Guitar

Bridge placement is one aspect that can effect performance and overall sound, in theory it should work best when placed dead centre of any hard or none moving parts.

Re: I've gone to the dark side

    Ah we have been suggesting GDAE, if you want CGDA 9p 13p 18w 28w for 23” scale 10p 14p 20w 30w for 21” scale.

Re: I've gone to the dark side

I prefer slightly lighter string on my 23” scale banjo, unlike tenor guitars that can be sensitive to string tension, I find you have more leeway way with banjos.
    Certainly nothing wrong with the...

Re: tenor guitar strings for GDAE tunning

You mean how well it is over built!
We have had another guy using a BR 40t with 8 strings a few years back, it did fail with 140lb after a few months, bridge lifted I think?
