    Re: Nashville Visit Advice

I was there in early December. Stayed downtown at the Cambria. Took Uber from the airport and then walked everywhere. The Ryman, saw the Mavericks, the Gibson Garage, played an F-5G, and Carter's....

    Re: Choro tune title?

The correct spelling is Itapoá Jibé. Itapoá is a city/beach in Santa Catarina, Brazil. I can't find anything on the internet about this song and my Brazilian mother-in-law doesn't know much Choro....

My next mando will be an oval. Starting to look like it will be a Mike Black A2z.

    Re: musical notation question

To my knowledge that's a slide into the note ... so the 2 E's may just blend together.

    Re: Learning classical mandolin technique

I have Marilyn Mair's book The Complete Mandolinist and I am also taking lessons through Artist Works with Caterina Lichtenberg. I've been playing mandolin about a year and a half. You can't beat the...

Check pockets of pants and shorts. I'm always putting picks there when the wife or kids call me to do something.

    Re: Recording

Bluegrass? So no drummer? You could have your bass player play to a click and you could do a scratch vocal/guitar, then when his part is nailed down go back and do another guitar and vocal.

Is it possible to post some videos of them being played? I'm sure folks would love to hear them.

    Re: seeking modern bluegrass suggestions

Not recent but you might try Steve Earle's album The Mountain, with the Del McCoury Band. It's got some mandolin on it and the songs are all originals.

    Re: Sí Beag, Sí Mhór

That was great. I thought I recognized the title. I have this song performed by Deiseal on the Narada Celtic Legacy CD but it sounds quite different.

  17. Poll: Re: Just starting out -- Should I really learn to "read music"?

When I started mandolin last April, it was my intent to learn to read. I've played guitar and bass on and off for 25 years, learning mostly by ear and teaching myself music theory. I'm still working...

If you like that you should have already bought Ian’s new album. It is great. Jazzy & funky!

This album is so cool. Funky and jazzy. It's got a Bela Fleck & the Flecktones vibe.

95% of the music I listen has lyrics but this so good you don't need any. I get through the album almost twice...
  20. Re: Is there an easy program that will change pitch of a YouTube

Re: The Girl I Left Behind Me

Great tune, I’ve been playing David Benedict’s version. There’s quite a bit of melody in that song that makes me think of the Pogues Waxie’s Dargle.

Postscript: I see on the Wikipedia page it...
  23. Re: Jerry Hill Mandolins -- Anyone seen/tried/have one? Feedback

I emailed Fiddler's Green about Jerry Hill mandolins a few months ago. Here's what they told me:

"Well, there isn’t too much to tell. Jerry is a local guy (great fiddle and mandolin player) that...
  24. Re: Is a solid back generally considered better than bookended?

I think you mean a one piece back rather than a 2 piece. A larger piece of wood is needed to make a 1 piece rather than glueing or bookending 2 pieces, which generally results in a higher price.
  25. Re: Holding on to your personal Holy Grail mandolin

I think I saw my Holy Grail on Ellis' Instagram page today.
