Man, those disks must be a pretty penny! I don't think I've seen 'em at Home Depot :))
I'm not familiar with them myself.
Of all the kits I've tried, Stew Mac's have the most consistent quality.
I would put them on par with Eastman and a step down from the Weber. I think you'll end up needing to put a little cash together with the Weber as the Gallatin line was pretty basic and a wide neck...
I've run my electrics through a Fulltone OCD & a Swollen Pickle by Way Huge but not the acoustics. I'm sure it would work fine if a little prone to feedback.
Though I didn't like the tuners, the MDO305 is a lot of bang for your buck. It's a lot of OM for a starter but I'm a gear snob and ended selling mine to fund a Weber.
Congrats! I love the tone from the larger body.
That's coming together nicely!!
That's a great looking archtop!!
Sweet! I dig the floating trem :mandosmiley:
Ah, but therein lies the opportunity! I had a lot of fun hunting for hidden deals on ebay from mispelled listings when it was still new
I have a Taylor 814 with a similar seam separation from low humidity. It's similarly repaired and, though I didn't keep it in my office anymore, it's been stable ever since. That said, the repair...
Nice score!
I recently picked up a Pono MND-30HC & really dig the shorter scale. It has a slightly tighter feel vs the Northfield & a little brighter tone. I waffled between the Pono & Northfield offerings...
Make sure to leave a little room in the budget for a setup. You can also do it yourself, of course, and one of the Cafe members, Rob Meldrum, has a killer setup book that he'll email you of you send...
Though I do think US made instruments can do better at resale than imports, I think that's just perception and more folks are coming to realize that. I love everything about my Big Mon. From the...
I started out with a Kentucky KM-150 & then picked up a Loar LM-600. My first upgrade was a Weber Absaroka after selling the KM-150 & the LM-600. I also got two Weber mandolas, an oval & an F hole,...
I got my Big Mon during the lockdown so didn't get to try any but have been over the moon since Miss Maybelle arrived. If that's the sound you like, I think you'll be pleased but you can always buy...
When I think of "jazz" mandolin, I think of hollow body electric. Maybe oval hole vs F holes but, even then, it's more of a different tone with jazz melodies/scales/rhythms rather than a correct...
I have a Northfield flattop GBOM with Sitka & Walnut that I love. I like the 20" scale of my Weber OM but it doesn't have the resonance of the longer scale. I've never played a 21" scale for...
That's wonderful! Kismet to be sure :)
Whether it's jeans or mandolins, there's nothing like finding the right fit!
Wonderful tone!
Nice zouk!
