Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

That's more than I paid for my beautiful Stradolin. Just saying
  2. Re: Creating a solo video with my own backing track

I hear you. You're alot more disciplined and analytical (not to mention practical) in your approach than I have been, plus I was being a tad facetious .

If I decided at some point I...
  3. Re: Creating a solo video with my own backing track

Sherry, that's why you need more mandolins :mandosmiley:
Wine's not a bad interim suggestion, though ;)

BTW, When I need to download from my phone (android) I connect it to my pc (windows) with...
  4. Re: Do great looking mandolins have to sound better?

Maybe. Not sure about that from what I've read here on the Cafe. I think it might be complicated.
  5. Re: Creating a solo video with my own backing track

Sherry, I'm glad you're figuring it all out so that when I get to that point, it'll be a no brainer
  6. Re: Do great looking mandolins have to sound better?

Depends on your definition of "prettier."

However, as previously noted, I believe a distinct majority equate prettier with fancier. Personally I think there are pretty mandolins that are fancy,...
  7. Re: Do great looking mandolins have to sound better?

It seems like in the mandolin world, "looks good" very often equates to "looks fancy". Maybe not universally true, though. I personally am a big fan of simplicity. I had emailed Mike Dulak about the...

Re: Where are the Mandola Books?

I recently got a copy of Niles Hokkanen's small book The Mandola Sampler. The type is pretty small for my oldish eyes, but it's VERY full of information. Extremely concentrated. I've only read...

    Re: 1000 posts!

Well, I can see how that would slow down your posting :)
A tad off topic, but here's a question, then. What do you bring into the woods for playing music?

    Re: Mike Marshall's Loar?

I kind of wish my fingers were more like his for when you have to hold down 4 strings at a time.

Re: ? about Dunlop Primetone picks...

The Wegen is TF120. On Zach's recommendation :)
I also got a Primetone 1.4 Grip pick, which I like, too, but maybe not as much.

My problem as I am learning to strum my mandolin and not hold my...

(Zach, I bought your Wegen pick that you like for...

    Re: Harmony H-417 Mandolin

I guess if you like it and it is all fixed up by your luthier, and is only $100, there isn't any reason you can't have both

    Re: Looking for a bridge

It might not be, either (beyond your abilities). Armed with a copy of the Rob Meldrum ebook, a few simple tools, and some good advice right here, many things are possible :)

    Re: Pandemic Reading

I'm going to go look for those Montana books, because I like Tony (and Anne) Hillerman, C.J. Box, and Craig Johnson (NMC).
