    New String Strummin' Song

    Hi Everyone,

Just restrung my John Hamlett two-point with a new set of J74s. They sound crisp, bright, and robust. It's definitely different than the first few sets of J74s I had on it prior to...
  2. Re: Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

Play, play, play. Listen, emulate, look up songs on YouTube and slow them down to .5 speed to get all the notes. Learn easy/beginner versions of fiddle tunes. Do it all!

    Re: Hamlett Two-Point Review

    Hi everyone,

Iím taking this opportunity to post a total Mando-geek picture from a gig at The Lancaster Roots and Blues festival last night. We had a great time, and it was one of those gigs...
  4. Re: Looking for my old Weber Custom Elite F. Please help!

    Dang Brett!

That's a monster mandolin you're after there. The good news is, if one of us spots it there won't be much question as to whether or not it's the one. I mean, whoa....

    I feel your...
  5. Re: Tips on getting more volume out of a 3 week old Mando?

    Great to witness your journey!

Slight tweak… changing the strings doesn’t keep the tuners working well. It’s the strings themselves. They have a lifespan and eventually don’t stay stretched to...
  6. Re: Tips on getting more volume out of a 3 week old Mando?

That’s great to hear, Frankie. I’m a believer, as I’ve experienced it happen too.

Some mandolins seem to perk up quite easily, and some seem to need 20-30 minutes of consistent playing. I had a...

    Re: Clown Barf Construction

I’m with you, man. I know they’re likely died celluloid, nothing special, but the tone is good, the cost is cheap, and they are nearly impossible to lose. I’ve purchased three Blue Chips in my...
  8. Re: Epiphone MM-30: Should I Improve It, Or Upgrade?

Oh wow. That's a great story about the bridge fitting making such a big difference. Conventional wisdom says a good setup helps mandolins sound their best and it looks like you have a good example of...

Re: Wegen vs. Primetone vs. Clown Barf

    Haha!

I appreciate all of these replies. The wonderful world of picks. :-)

I've since been lured by the Blue Chip. It's easy to see why it's so revered. There's a difference for sure, and I...
  13. Re: Mandolin > K&K Twin Internal > Grace Bix - Help please

Yeah, it did that for me without the Yellow, but the Yellow reduces it drastically. Nonetheless, it has a setting to dry out the tone to varying degrees which practically eliminates any threat of it.
  14. Re: Mandolin > K&K Twin Internal > Grace Bix - Help please

    Hey thereÖ.

I have a K&K Pure Mini installed in my Martin and run it through the Pure pre-amp. It sounds great. Previously I had a B-Band and it was not for me.

    For my mandolin, however, I...

Re: Some Real Music - Sierra Ferrell

    Nice!

John Hamlett sent me that video when I asked him if he knew of any Hamlett recordings I could lust overview while mine was being made. She's great, and so is that mandolin!

Wegen vs. Primetone vs. Clown Barf

    Hi Everyone,

Here’s a pretty sweet pick comparison. These are all what I consider to be valued picks that seem to occupy similar market space in terms of reputation and cost.

    Re: Clown Barf Construction

Really? I was thinking they are at least 25% cosmogenic ether, depending on the vibration of the celluloid. If I had known about the SDIII affiliation I would have just gone with Fender Extra Thicks,...

    Monroe Style Help

For example, I am trying to get...
