    Re: A Style “Holy Grail?

I drop by Carter's whenever in the area. We ain't poor but I can't just throw money at instruments either. I would always play the Duff A5s that they would have, pick my jaw up off the floor and...
  2. Crossrock mandolin/fiddle combo case + ToneGard question....

    Hey, all

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Crossrock mando/fiddle case. Does anyone know whether or not I can leave the ToneGard on my mandolin while in the case? It's a Duff A5.

    Thanks!

    Northfield Recurve or Hiscox?

These seem to be roughly in the same price ballpark. One could split hairs, but it's close enough. If you were to choose one, which would you choose and why? I do need for the ToneGard to fit in the...

    You won't go wrong.
  7. Re: Duff A style mandolins, like to hear owner thoughts, some ?

I own a 2019 Duff A5. Slim neck, makes full G easier for aging hands :), big presence and tone. Small frets. Plays easy and gives most all it's headroom with a light chop. Amazing. I will never part...

    Re: The Discipline Era Transcriptions

Anybody done anything with this yet? NGR and King Crimson were equally on my radar when the Discipline album came out.

THREAD UPDATE Re: Powerful A models in the 5K range

    Hi Cafe,

Since posting this thread some months ago, I have shifted mandolins around and ended up with a 2020 Craig Wilson WA-5 AND.....a 2019 Duff A-5! The Wilson is a strong-sounding...

Having played everything on your list, I personally would go for the KM1500.

  16. Craig Wilson WA-5 "Griffith Loar Tribute" mandolin....she's mine!

I just acquired the above mentioned mandolin, and it's an outstanding instrument, punching FAR above it's weight in tone, volume and overall fit and finish. I'll try to post some pictures and video...

    Re: Eastman 515 vs J Bovier F5t

515 is usually a clear winner. The later JBoviers were really nice, with those coming before being decent-to-nice.
  19. Re: The elusive Stelling 2-lump mandolin. Behold the glory!!

Makes one wonder where they are. In 40 + years I have never seen one pop up in a jam, at a festival or anywhere else. Maybe some demented soul is sitting on a cache of early Stelling mandolins.

    Re: Griffith Loar

West Coast luthier Craig Wilson also builds his WA-5 Griffith Loar replica. I will have the pleasure of test driving one in the next couple weeks.
  21. Re: The elusive Stelling 2-lump mandolin. Behold the glory!!

I remember seeing them advertised. Thought they were neat then. Maybe because they were a higher end brand that seemed "more-than-an-A" while "less than an F". Something different to see. As a player...

    Stelling S1/2/3 mandolins

    Re: Griffith Loar

I got to spend an afternoon with The Griffith Loar a few years ago. Still have VHS video somewhere. It remains my favorite looking and sounding of all mandolins.
